Swatch: Liquid Sky Lacquer Holo Top Coat [layering]

Today I'm showing you the "wild card" from Liquid Sky Lacquer Cabo Cabana Party Collection: Holo Top Coat (on LSL neons from same collection, on a couple other polishes, and also on its own).

Oggi vi mostrerò il jolly della collezione Liquid Sky Lacquer - Cabo Cabana Party: il top coat olografico (sugli smalti della collezione, altri e anche da solo)!

I know that I already showed you this top coat, matched with each neon, but Holo Top Coat is really a special polish that deserves a post on its own!!

As it contains a lot of pigment (that's why it gives a silvery hue to base polish) I tried to use it also by itself, in these first pictures the result after three coats: great, it can be worn also as a silver holo!

Holographic effect is stunning, you can catch the rainbow sparkles also indoors!

Ve l'avevo già mostrato nei singoli post dei neon, ma questo smalto speciale secondo me meritava un post tutto per sé. 

Quello che vedete in queste prime foto è lo smalto da solo: anche è stato ideato come top coat, ha una forte "carica" di pigmento olografico (infatti a volte "argentizza" molto il colore di base) e in tre passate ha un risultato da perfetto argento holo.

Come vedete le particelle olografiche sono super riflettenti, si vedono in condizioni di luce anche indiretta <3!

Here below you will find a couple layerings I did on different polishes. I don't think that the holo top coat suits every polish, I applied it on a red shimmer (not pictured) and I found that it looked really too silvery indoors; very dark polishes (Kiko 529 for instance) also "lose" some of their appeal to me, even if they sparkle like crazy outdoors.

On the contrary, certain combos were gorgeous in my opinion (Essence turquoise and Kiko teal as bases), all in all I adore this topper (especially on bright cremes) and I think it's really a must-have if you like holos.

Qui invece su alcuni altri smalti; non tutti gli esperimenti che ho fatto mi hanno soddisfatta, su alcuni colori (ad esempio un rosso shimmer, che non ho fotografato) secondo me l'argento era troppo evidente. Anche su quelli molto scuri (come il Kiko 529) secondo me si perde un po' troppo la tonalità di base, anche se sotto il sole luccica da impazzire.

Su colori come il turchese Essence o il teal-verde Kiko 300 l'effetto è strepitoso <3

Insomma eccezioni a parte (non può star bene su tutto) adoro questo top coat (se non si era capito ^_^)!

[Wheel - Ruota] Glitter/Top coat #1

Good morning! Today I'm showing you my oldest "layering polishes" wheel.

I put on it all the polishes that require a base (colored, white, black...), because they are not supposed to be used on their own.

Usually it's glitter in clear bases, but here you could find also a couple crackles, flakies and iridescent polishes (unfortunately white plastic is not the best base for them).

Please forgive the ugliness of my oldest swatches, I think that certain polishes are pictured better on this wheel (full size) than on my 2010-2011 nails ^_^.

Buongiorno! Oggi vi mostrerò la più vecchia delle mie "vecchie" ruote, la prima della categoria "top coat vari", che per me include praticamente tutti gli smalti da layering, ideati per essere stesi sopra una base.

Di solito sono glitter in base non coprente, ma in questo caso si vedono anche due crackle (finish raro nel mio archivio :D), alcuni flakies e degli iridescenti da layering (purtroppo su base bianca non rendono molto).

P.S. pietà per gli swatch vecchi, certi smalti secondo me li vedete meglio ingrandendo la foto della ruota ^_^

Shaka Metalgold Ref. 2 - swatch + layering

Today I'm showing you a super stunning polish (IMHO).

It belongs to a new collection from Italian brand Shaka: Metalgold, that includes seven sheer multichrome polishes (actually they released it last Summer, so it's not that new now :-P).

Unfortunately they have no name, this one is just "Ref.  2". It has an orange-brown sheer base with pink and light blue shimmer. I tried it on several base colors and always loved the result: pink and azure hues are really visible and the warm base slightly modifies the color of the underneath polish.

Let's see it in action, at first on its own and with simple black undies:

• index - 1 on a black base
• middle - 3 coats
• ring - 2 coats
• pinkie - 1 coat

Oggi vi faccio vedere uno smalto bellissimo. Per come la vedo io ;-) 

Premessa: l'estate scorsa sono apparsi in alcuni negozi della catena OVS-Coin-Upim dei nuovi smalti Shaka (io li ho trovati all'Upim), si trattava di due collezioni particolari, la Metal Stone (textured) e la Metalgold (multichrome).

Grazie anche ad una malefica promozione "compra due, il secondo lo paghi metà" mi sono portata a casa praticamente tutti e sette i multichrome.

Questo è il primo, senza nome, contraddistinto solo dal "Ref. 2".

Com'è: base arancio-marrone semitrasparente con shimmer cangianti azzurro e rosa, l'ho provato su vari colori ed il risultato mi è piaciuto praticamente sempre, i riflessi azzurro e rosa sono molto molto  visibili, e il colore dello smalto, coprente ma non tanto, scalda leggermente la base su cui viene applicato.

Iniziamo con una prova semplice su nero e una gradazione da 1 a 3 mani del solo Shaka:

• indice: una passata su base nera
• medio: tre passate 
• anulare: due passate
• mignolo: una passata

Birthstone Challenge - November: Topaz

Our penultimate Birthstone Challenge date!! November's primary birthstone is topaz and in the beginning I was quite sure that I had the perfect polish in my stash: OPI A Woman's Prague-Ative. It's a beautiful orange with golden flakes...but when I swatched it I found it was quite dark (maybe too much, to represent topaz).

So I added a coat of Orly Bling (the pretty golden holo from brand new Sparkle Collection) and the result was really cool (it's a pity the weather was rainy-cloudy, so I couldn't take a picture in sunlight)...But still a little bit too orange.

Penultimo appuntamento con la Birthstone Challenge! Il mese di novembre è tradizionalmente abbinato al topazio e nonostante avessi le idee abbastanza chiare sullo smalto da usare, alla fine non sono stata completamente soddisfatta dal risultato e ho provato a elaborarci sopra qualcosa...Che non mi ha comunque convinta!

Ma andiamo con ordine: il mio smalto-topazio era l'OPI A Woman's Prague-Ative, un arancio con bellissimi flakes dorati, il problema è che sulle unghie era troppo carico per rappresentare la pietra...E così ho colto l'occasione per provarci sopra il bellissimo Orly Bling (holo dorato della nuova collezione Sparkle). Il risultato era molto carino (peccato non avere neanche un po' di sole per fotografarlo come si deve), ma ancora un po' troppo arancione.

Eventually I added: golden polish (Etude House), a pattern with striping tape and topaz rhinestones.

Definitely too much!! And overall the manicure looked too light/cool toned...Drat!

At least you have plenty of other topazes to check out on our Pinterest board here below ;-)!!

Così ho pensato di aggiungerci (per non farmi mancare niente): uno smalto dorato (Etude House), un motivo con lo striping tape e pure delle rhinestones color topazio. Troppa roba. E il colore era diventato troppo chiaro/freddo. Uffa!

Vabbè, rifatevi gli occhi con gli altri topazi sulla nostra board di Pinterest ;-)

Essence Nail Art Sparkle Sand top coat - 24 I feel gritty! [swatch-layering]

Last August I found at Müller the Essence "New in town" display and I couldn't resist grabbing the last top coat: I feel gritty (this name makes me want to sing ^_^).

I'm sorry it took me so much time to try it on different bases and post about it. Eventually I realized that the "sandy touch" that is gives is a sort of "sugar coat" one, as the polish has a lot of white flakes in a milky base. On light colored polishes it melts quite well with the base and looks more like a "natural" textured, whereas on dark polishes the contrast with white crystals is quite evident.

In conclusion...I think it's a fun top coat to own, here are my layerings (even the absurd ones, as the gritty holo :-P).

Quando ho trovato al Müller il display "New in town", con le anteprime della nuova collezione, non ho potuto non comprare l'ultimo pezzo del top coat "I feel gritty" (il nome fa venir voglia di cantare, no?).

Era agosto. Poi come al solito ci ho messo una vita a provarlo.

L'idea che mi sono fatta alla fine è che l'effetto è più da "zucchero sulle unghie" che sabbiato vero e proprio, viisto che lo smalto è composto da una base lattiginosa con scagliette bianco-cristalline; sugli smalti chiari si confonde abbastanza e l'effetto è più da textured mentre sugli scuri lo stacco delle particelle bianche si nota parecchio.

Comunque è un top coat simpatico da avere, secondo me. Qui sotto ecco le prove (anche assurde, tipo quella sull'holo) che ho fatto:
