Swatch: Kiko 492 Rosso Perlato - Pearly Red + comparison

 

 

I'm quite determined to complete my 2010 swatching project, but don't worry: I will post also more recent polishes, as this Kiko that I bought a couple of months ago.

Unfortunately it is part of their "nail lacquer" line (the basic one, with square bottles), that is likely to be dismissed. All the shades have been on sale since last Spring (1€ for a 11 ml bottle) and I suggest keeping an eye on the sale shelves, because (at least here in Italy) the selection of colors changes from time to time, also according to each store stock, and some shades are really worth having!

Today I'm showing you #492 Pearly Red: it must be said that a Kiko "pearly" nail lacquer has not necessarily a pearly finish, often there are microglitters or tiny flakes involved *yay* ;-).

In fact this one has a light red base, filled with red, golden and pink microflakes.

Application is easy and even (see first coat picture); the nail polish is opaque in two coats and the surface remains smooth. After the second coat there is still a slightly visible nail line, but I didn't find it annoying.

Va bene il progetto 2010...Però ogni tanto bisogna postare anche qualcosa di più recente ;-)

Purtroppo quello di oggi, pur essendo un acquisto di un paio di mesi fa, è uno smalto che sta andando in pensione: si tratta di un Kiko della serie "boccetta squadrata" (i nail lacquer - la linea base fino a poco tempo fa). Questi smalti si trovano in offerta a un euro nei vari negozi (che assortiscono in base alla disponibilità e spesso cambiano i colori esposti), per 11 ml di ottimo prodotto è veramente un affare (certi colori sono veramente stupendi).

Oggi vi mostro il n. 492 Rosso Perlato: per fortuna nel tempo abbiamo imparato a tradurre il Kik-ese e sappiamo che perlato di solito corrisponde a microflakes o comunque non al perlato da "signora" che non piace a tutti (a me no, ad esempio).

In questo caso infatti abbiamo una base rosso chiaro piena di shimmerini/microparticelle rosso-dorate-rosa.

La coprenza è uniforme (v. foto prima passata) e lo smalto è facile da applicare; dopo due passate si intravede la linea dell'unghia, ma nel complesso non l'ho trovata fastidiosa. Anche se lo smalto è pieno di queste microscagliette la superficie "finale" è liscia.

When applying it on my "red wheel" I noticed it looked quite similar to Orly Emberstone, so here is a quick comparison:

• pointer Kiko 492 Rosso perlato
• middle Orly Emberstone

They are similar, but Emberstone has a different "blend" of particles, there are much more pink ones, so that the overall shade is different: here below direct sunlight and indoors pictures.

Quando l'ho messo sulla ruota dei rossi ho notato un certa somiglianza con Orly Emberstone, così taaac ecco qua una comparazione veloce (due passate):

• indice Kiko 492 Rosso Perlato
• medio Orly Emberstone

Sono simili, ma Emberstone ha una composizione di particelle differente, oltre alle dorate ce ne sono parecchie rosa, che nel complesso gli danno una tonalità diversa; qui sotto due foto sole/luce indiretta.

Birthstone Challenge - December: Turquoise

December came...and we reached the final episode of our Birthstone series. Once again I must thank Ere K. for having this great idea and arranging the challenge!

This month's gem is turquoise, and this time I had no doubts: I had to try the water spotted I saw on Simona's blog Light Your Nails.

When looking for inspiration I saw also some manicures that included gold, so I decided to try mine using a turquoise base (Orly Frisky) plus black (Orly Liquid Vinyl*) and gold (CND Vinylux Locket Love*).

I know that my manicure is far from perfect, the black came out too "diffuse" and there is a huge gold spot on my ring finger...But I really loved my marbled nails.

I found them so mesmerizing that I had to complete the manicure on my right hand, and add tons of top coat to make it last as long as possible :-)

BTW don't forget to take a look at our board, there's plenty of turquoises there...And thanks for reading, I really hope you enjoyed our gemstones series!

Ed eccoci arrivate all'ultima puntata della nostra Birthstone Challenge, che ha scandito mese per mese questo 2014 ormai agli sgoccioli. Grazie ancora ad Ere K. per averla ideata e organizzata!

Questa volta si parla di turchese e sapevo da mesi cosa fare: la water spotted vista da Simona Light Your Nails!

Guardando un po' in giro ho trovato anche delle versioni che includevano l'oro e così ho deciso di cimentarmi (per la prima volta) in questo tipo di nail art, utilizzando una base turchese (Orly Frisky), smalto nero (Orly Liquid Vinyl*) e oro (CND Vinylux Locket Love*). 

Il risultato è ben lontano dall'essere perfetto, lo so...Sull'anulare c'è una macchia oro troppo larga ed il nero è venuto molto "diffuso", per cui la manicure complessivamente è troppo scura, ma sulle mani l'ho trovata meravigliosa e particolarissima, tanto da completare la manicure con la mano destra e passarci abbondante top coat, per tenerla, se possibile, tutta la settimana!

Mi raccomando fate un giro sulla board per ammirare anche gli altri turchesi e grazie per averci seguito in questo anno di challenge!!

Orly Sparkle - Holiday 2014: swatches&review

Here is (finally) my post with all Orly Sparkle swatches (here you can find the Italian press release). There will be a lot of pictures, because the (most) glittery polishes have been tried with different bases (and sometimes also on their own).

I found very interesting that the polishes were quite different from each other in terms of coverage, composition, even if all were described as "glitters" in the press release...But let's see them!

Ecco finalmente il post con gli swatch della collezione Orly Sparkle (qui la cartella stampa), sarà particolarmente lungo perché gli smalti glitter sono stati provati con diverse basi (e in qualche caso -masochisticamente- anche da soli :D).

Anticipo solo che, nonostante la cartella stampa parlasse di "glitter", la cosa interessante è questi smalti sono quasi tutti diversi come composizione, coprenza...Ma vediamoli!

ORLY MIRRORBALL

Silver holo with exagonal holo glitters (they sparkle also indoors <3), that make it stand out among the "usual" silver holographics; opaque in two (thick) coats. Adorable!

Olografico argento con glitter argento (e pure olografici, tanto per non ripetermi) che luccicano anche in interni <3; diverso dal "solito" holo argentato, coprente in due passate abbondanti.

ORLY BLING

I would have expected a "golden Mirrorball" polish, but Bling is much sheerer, three coats for these pictures.

In real life the nail line wasn't that visible, also because of the holo sparkles...Anyway I think it would be better to use it on a coloured base; here below one coat of Bling on an orange metallic.

Mi sarei aspettata un fratello dorato del Mirrorball, invece questo è molto più leggero, nelle foto qui sopra il risultato dopo tre passate.

Devo dire che dal vivo non si notava così tanto la lunetta, coperta dallo sfarfallante luccichio olografico.

Bello, ma meglio usarlo con una base colorata, qui sotto la prova (era l'esperimento "topazio", rifatto con il sole) su un arancio metallico.

ORLY EXPLOSION OF FUN

Tons of magenta microglitters in a clear base, filled with light blue shimmer.

In a moment of madness I tried it on its own (the things I do for love blog!*), three coats for these swatches. 

The blue shimmer make nails look less "naked", but this polish is undoubtedly a "layering only" one: swatches on black and white bases after the next polish!

Una valanga di microglitter magenta olografici in una base trasparente con shimmer azzurro.

In un momento di follia (the things I do for love blog*) l'ho provato da solo, tre passate per questo swatch; lo shimmer dà un'aria meno "nuda" alle unghie (soprattutto all'ombra), però secondo me lo smalto resta essenzialmente un glitter da layering.

Prova su classici bianco e nero (abbinamento bellissimo) dopo il prossimo smalto.

ORLY STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT

A mix of (many) teal microglitters and (few) pink glitters. If you mix carefully the polish with the brush before applying it, you can get really glitter-thick coats. At first I stopped after the second coat, but then I applied a third one, compared nails (see small pic below), and decided that I had to swatch this polish with three coats. It deserved it!

Nails are perfectly opaque, as you can see...But I think that maybe next time I'll spare myself some glitter-removing troubles and use just a coat of Steal the Spotlight on a teal base.

Un mix di microglitter ottanio e (pochi) glitter esagonali rosa. A seconda di quanto si va a "rimestare" il pennello sul fondo della boccetta prima di applicarlo, lo smalto è più o meno carico di glitter.

Dopo due passate mi sembrava già presentabile, ma dopo averne aggiunta una terza ho visto che "three is meglio che two", quindi a parte la foto piccola, tutti gli swatch sono stati fatti con tre passate.

Come vedete l'unghia è perfettamente coperta (e spettacolare), per risparmiare glitter però la prossima volta lo proverò su una "mutanda" intonata.

Both Explosion of Fun and Steal the Spotlight are glitter polishes (even if quite "dense"), so I tried them also on the usual black and white bases...and together (actually I just brushed some EoF on StS, but if I had to do it seriously, I'd try a gradient).

Siccome sia Explosion of Fun sia Steal the Spotlight sono glitter, anche se "densi", li ho provati sulle classiche basi nera e bianca...e abbinati (pennellato a casaccio Explosion of Fun sullo swatch di Steal...dovendo farli seriamente penserei ad una gradient).

ORLY TINSEL

I'm not a very "Christmas" person, so I didn't expect to like it...But I did! The mix of hexagonal red glitters, green-holo bar glitter and small red glitters is really pretty and reminded me of holly *__*.

I tried it on white, black and silver bases (I still can't decided which one is my favorite, maybe the white one).

Pensavo che Tinsel non mi sarebbe piaciuto (non sono molto "natalizia", come persona), invece ho adorato questo mix di glitter esagonali rossi e bar glitter (a "barretta") verdi/olografici, immersi in una base trasparente con microglitter rossi...Mi ha ricordato i rametti di agrifoglio!

Provato su base argento, nera e bianca (forse la mia preferita)...

 ORLY GLITTERBOMB

A classic "confetti glitter"...Colorful hexagonal glitter (big and small) in a clear base, enriched with pink shimmer.

One coat on both nails, as you can see if you "overload" the brush you get really a lot of glitters (too many maybe, I prefer the thinner layer, this time).

That's all, I hope you liked the ginormous post of this really sparkling collection!

Un classico "confetti glitter" (non è buffo che in inglese si traducano così i nostri "coriandoli"?), composto da glitter esagonali di tutti i colori -grandi e piccoli- in una base trasparente con un leggero shimmer rosa. Una passata sola su entrambe le unghie, quella sull'anulare era particolarmente carica (pure troppo)!

Provato, con il suo compagno di collezione Tinsel, su argento, bianco e nero. Nonostante non sia una patita dei glitter ho apprezzato particolarmente questo "tocco" di shimmer o microglitter aggiunto alle basi trasparenti della Sparkle, è una variante simpatica ai soliti "topper". 

E con queste ultime foto è tutto, spero il post via sia piaciuto e...Grazie per essere arrivate in fondo ;-)
