Swatch: Kiko 362 Rosso Papavero - Poppy Red

In my latest swatch post I promised to show you something more colorful soon...But when I checked my swatches I realized I've got so many dark green and purples in my "pic drafts" folder :-P.

Anyway the first bright swatch I found is this one, a Kiko I bought during sales (from old, almost discontinued and beloved Nail Lacquer line): its name is Poppy Red.

It's an intense and slightly cool red, very pigmented (as you can see on the "first coat" picture), for these swatches (pics with bottle) I applied two coats as usually, no top coat.

La penultima volta avevo promesso un post più colorato...Ma andando a sbirciare tra le foto più recenti ho trovato un sacco di verde e viola scuro :-P 

La prima cosa brillante che ho trovato è stato questo Kiko comprato ai saldi (sempre della cara vecchia linea Nail Lacquer). Si chiama Rosso Papavero ed è davvero un bel rosso vivace, dal tono leggermente freddo.

Molto pigmentato, come vedete dalla foto della prima passata; per il resto delle foto (con boccetta) ho applicato le canoniche due mani, niente top coat.

Swatch: Kiko Shades of Black 004 Blu Notte - Midnight Blue

I know that Summer is not the right season for an almost-black polish ^_^ but I really wanted to show you another Kiko Shades of Black polish (the next post will be more colorful, I promise)!

This one is 004 Midnight Blue: the result after the first coat depends on how loaded was the brush, but after a second one you get a very dark/almost black blue. As you can see the polish is super glossy also on its own.

Needless to say, I love also this one, it might be useful also as a base for nail art or sheer polishes (for instance some magnetic ones).

So che non è proprio stagione da scurissimi...Ma volevo andare avanti la serie dei Kiko Shades of Black, quindi oggi ve ne propino propongo uno (il prossimo post sarà più colorato, prometto).

Questo è il numero 04 Blu Notte: il risultato dopo la prima mano dipende da quanto è carico il pennello, dopo due passate il colore diventa un blu scurissimo, praticamente nero. Come vedete nelle foto lo smalto è lucidissimo anche da solo.

Inutile dire che adoro anche questo super scuro, tra l'altro utilissimo da utilizzare come base per nail art o smalti non molto coprenti (tipo certi magnetici).

Swatch: Chanel 510 Gitane

I was browsing my pictures, looking for inspiration...Then I found this bright Chanel, lent me by my friend Irene a couple weeks ago!

It's n. 510 Gitane, released in 2016 when Chanel reformulated their "Le Vernis" nail polish (that became "Le Vernis Long Wear"); they changed also the look of the bottle, moving the name of the polish from the front to the back (actually I prefer the old, more practical, version).

Gitane is a bright "chili pepper" red creme, quite pigmented (check the "first coat" pictures), for these swatches (pics with bottle) I applied the usual two.

No top coat, the polish is very glossy on its own!

Stavo cercando l'ispirazione per un post e sfogliando le foto recenti ho trovato questo coloratissimo Chanel: il n. 510 Gitane.

La boccetta mi è stata prestata dalla mia amica Irene :-* e cercando un po' di notizie sullo smalto ho appurato che Gitane è uscito nel 2016, quando Chanel ha riformulato gli smalti (passando da Le Vernis a Le Vernis Long Wear. Anche la boccetta è cambiata un po', infatti il nome non si trova più sul davanti, ma sul retro; io onestamente preferivo la versione precedente, con il nome in bella vista.

Lo smalto è un rosso intenso (carico ma non scuro), tipo "peperoncino"; molto pigmentato, come vedete dalla foto della prima passata. Per questi swatch (tutte le foto con boccetta) ne ho applicate due, niente top coat (lo smalto è così bello lucido già da solo).

Swatch: Kiko Shades of Black 002 Melanzana - Aubergine

After making the first skittle of "Shades of Black" Kiko polishes I committed myself to prepare swatches of each polish: in fact I took pictures of four of them, but this is the first time I am satisfied with the result. Earlier I didn't like either my nails (too short), lighting (sun too dim) or even my swatching ability (I got rusty)!
Luckily last Sunday it was quite sunny, my nails were long enough :-P and I finally managed to swatch properly one of them!

The lucky one is n. 002 Aubergine: after the first coat its dark burgundy shade is distinguishable (and its intensity depends on how "loaded" was the brush), but after the second coat it becomes almost black.
I didn't apply top coat, as the polish dries super glossy <3, I hope it is visible in my pics.
Application is great, the polish is easy to apply but not runny; the only thing I noticed wearing it for a couple of days was the proneness to tip wear, but this is an issue I usually have with creme polishes.

Dopo aver fatto la skittle degli smalti Shades of Black Kiko mi ero impegnata a postarli uno alla volta, ma pur avendone swatchati quattro finora, non ero mai rimasta soddisfatta dalle fotografie. Unghie troppo corte prima (e avevo pure -"perso la mano" su come fare swatch), luce scarsa dopo...

Insomma queste (grazie ad una bella domenica di sole) sono le prime che mi piacciono: le altre dovrò rifarle, per fortuna gli smalti scuri come questi fanno comodo anche come base per layering o nail art e non mi peserà riprovarli!

Il fortunato è il n. 002 Melanzana Aubergine: dopo la prima passata si distingue ancora il colore di base (una specie di borgogna scurissimo), di intensità variabile a seconda di quanto carica è la pennellata (v. foto). Dopo la seconda passata il colore diventa quasi nero e lo smalto resta stupendamente lucido, per le foto non ho applicato top coat e spero rendano l'idea, la superficie era veramente "riflettente".

L'applicazione è ottima, lo smalto pur essendo fluido da applicare non è acquoso. L'unica cosa che ho notato su di me è una tendenza a consumarsi abbastanza velocemente sulle punta (ma è una cosa che mi capita con tanti smalti, soprattutto laccati).

Given that this is the first "long" post about these polishes, I'll add a couple technical details: the round cap is actually a cover: the real cap is smaller, less pretty, but much more practical to handle.

The brush is not very wide, but quite thick.

Visto che è il primo post "lungo" su uno dei questi smalti, aggiungo qualche dettaglio tecnico: la boccetta ha un "copritappo" removibile, sotto il quale si trova il tappo vero, meno decorativo ma più pratico da impugnare durante l'applicazione. Il pennello non è larghissimo, ma comunque abbastanza corposo.

Kiko Shades of Black Nail Lacquer [skittle]

Hi! First real/nail related post of 2018 (and also the first one after a long absence)...Anyway I feel like I'm kind of "resuming" something I suspended last September, as one of my latest posts was about a new LE from Kiko, the Holographic Nail Lacquer collection, and there was also another collection I was interested in, the one with the "almost black" polishes, but that time I did't manage to try them.

During January sales I bought the first two bottles (03-04), then at the end of February (thanks to a great "buy 2 get 4" promo on LEs) also the other four joined my stash.

Today I will be showing you a quick skittle, hoping I'll be able post also single swatches soon (the weather here is really awful, please Spring bring us some sunny days!).

Primo post vero/smaltoso del 2018 e dopo un lungo periodo di assenza...Mi piace pensare che oggi si riprenda in qualche modo il discorso interrotto a settembre: uno dei miei ultimi post infatti riguardava gli smalti di una edizione limitata Kiko appena uscita, quella degli olografici Holographic Nail Lacquer; c'era anche un'altra collezione di smalti che mi ispirava molto, quella degli scurissimi, ma al tempo non ero riuscita a provarli.

Ai saldi di gennaio (si vede che era destino) mi sono procurata i primi due (03-04) e poi, grazie a un'interessante promozione "2+2" proprio sulle LE, a fine febbraio sono entrati nella mia collezione anche i restanti quattro.

Oggi ve li mostrerò al volo in una skittle, poi (tempo permettendo, spero che la primavera porti un po' di sole) dedicherò un breve post a ognuno di loro. Partiamo intanto con le info ufficiali dal sito Kiko:

Two coats for this skittle: the brush is quite wide, but application is really easy (these polishes have a perfect formula).

No top coat needed, Shades of Black lacquers are already super glossy; I have to say (being a sucker for almost-black nail polishes) I really fell in love with them.

Qui li vedete con due passate ognuno, il pennello è abbastanza largo, ma l'applicazione è comunque facile: lo smalto ha una consistenza perfetta secondo me.

Niente top coat per queste foto, gli smalti sono super super lucidi già da soli; io che sono appassionata di smalti scuri me ne sono innamorata all'istante.

Il prezzo, già scontato del 50%, è di 2,45€ (boccetta da 10ml), segnalo che fino all'otto aprile on line e nei negozi dovrebbe esserci anche una promozione 2+1 sulle edizioni limitate.

Swatch: OPI Over the Taupe

Here is another polish I bought in 2010...This one was not a random Ebay purchase, I chose it purposely on Transdesign (haul post), probably because at that time it was quite famous.

It's OPI Over the Taupe, a polish released in 2009 (Brights collection) and still part of their "classic"shades.

The polish is quite watery, actually I was afraid it was because of its age, but reading back my old comparison posts (here is a taupe one) I realized that the formula has always been that runny.

I took a picture after the second coat and it was really unpresentable (see picture), but after the third one there were no more discolored patches. The shade became more intense, and besides, the surface was really glossy (no top coat for these swatches), I really liked it!

Ecco qui un altro smalto comprato nel 2010...Questo è stato un acquisto un po' più mirato (da Transdesign, qui il post haul), probabilmente ne avevo sentito parlare da qualche parte ai tempi. Si tratta di OPI Over the Taupe, un classico OPI ormai (infatti è uscito nel 2009 con la collezione Brights, ma è tuttora presente nella loro cartella colori).

Il taupe del nome è un termine vago che si può usare per definire un'ampia gamma di marrone-grigio o grigio caldo, si potrebbe tradurre come "talpa" (non altrettanto bello da pronunciare).

Qualche anno fa andava veramente tantissimo (o almeno, io di smalti simili ne ho comprati un tot).

Lo smalto si è rivelato abbastanza acquoso, mi era venuto il dubbio che fosse per via dell'età, ma rileggendo i vecchi post ho visto che era così già nel 2011, ai tempi delle prime comparazioni (tipo questa).

Ho scattato una foto dopo due passate, ma non era proprio presentabile: su unghie anche non lunghissime ne servono sicuramente tre. 

Va detto che dopo la terza passata il colore si intensifica e diventa davvero bello e super lucido (niente top coat per questi swatch).
