Inspired by...The Hang Edit (again) [twinsie]

This time we are a little bit late but...First Second Monday of the month = Tribute nail art post!
Despite the lack of time (I'm not posting nor swatching lately) I really couldn't skip this "date"!!
This month we picked another mani by TheHangEdit:

Stavolta siamo arrivate un po' lunghe, non è il primo, ma il secondo lunedì del mese. Nonostante il poco tempo libero (non riesco né a swatchare né a postare ultimamente), ci tenevo a fare almeno la manicure "inspired by".

Quindi eccola qua, per questo mese abbiamo scelto un'altra nail art di TheHangEdit:

My attempt - Il mio tentativo

This one seemed so simple...But at first I had to study the photo quite carefully, as I couldn't understand if the base was a black-nude or simply a negative space on very short nails (no free/white edge).
As my nails are quite longer I decided to apply a nude base, then painted the upper half in black. After that the complicated part: the flowers! They seemed so easy and simple, but they drove me nuts: I think I drew and removed them (luckily I used acrylics) at least 20 times. Then I gave up and decided to accept that they would never be similar to Hang Nguyen's ones.
Maybe next time I'll try stamping them!

La foto-ispirazione inizialmente mi ha lasciata un po' perplessa, perché non riuscivo a capire se si trattasse di un abbinamento nero-nude o di una negative space su unghie molto corte, senza linea bianca.
Comunque fosse, considerato che ho le unghie lunghe e la parte bianca si sarebbe vista nettamente, ho preferito stendere prima uno smalto beige per uniformare lo sfondo, poi ho dipinto la parte superiore di nero.
E lì sono cominciati i dolori, perché non riuscivo a disegnare quei fiorellini apparentemente lineari e semplici. Li avrò fatti e cancellati venti volte (per fortuna con gli acrilici).
Alla fine (stanca morta e un po' esaurita) mi sono rassegnata a lasciarli così. Poi ripensandoci...Avrei potuto provare ad farli con lo stamping.
Comunque l'idea della base bicolore è molto carina (e facilissima da fare, come "guida" ho usato del washi tape), di sicuro la riproverò.

Inspired by...Simple Nail Art Designs [twinsie]

First Monday of the month = twinsie!

This time we were inspired by this beautiful striped mani created by Simplenailartdesigns:

This time acrylics were required, so I finally opened the ones I bought many years ago; talking about dated nail art supplies, for this occasion I also unwrapped the Kiko fan brush that has been hiding in my drawer for years!

I have to say that I always feared using acrylics, but I was so wrong: it felt great to erase any unsatisfying results just using some water and soap :-D

Still, I had some issues with this nail art, because my Kiko brush had very dense bristles and stripes came out really wide.

I wasn't happy with the first mani, so I decided to try again, this time using an Elf makeup fan brush, with longer and thinner bristles.

Here are my pics, as usually at the standard "eye-hand" distance the mani seems quite neat :-P, whereas in macro pics all flaws are visible; I really liked the striped effect (it made me think about the sea), I will definitely try this technique again!

Questa volta gli acrilici erano proprio d'obbligo, così ho finalmente aperto la scatola di colori che avevo comprato parecchi anni fa, e mi sono cimentata con tubetti e pennello a ventaglio (anche quello un vecchissimo acquisto Kiko, finora mai usato). 

Non so perché temessi tanto di usare gli acrilici...Avevo decisamente sottovalutato il vantaggio di poter cancellare risultati poco edificanti con una semplice passata d'acqua e sapone :-D

Detto questo, mi sono trovata comunque in difficoltà, perché il pennello che avevo era troppo fitto e le strisce sulle unghie risultavano troppo grosse.

Così ho provato a rifare il tutto, stavolta usando un pennello a ventaglio da trucco Elf (che avevo da secoli e che tanto non userò mai :-P), con setole più lunghe e meno compatte.

Ecco qua le mie foto, devo dire che, al solito, a distanza "occhio-mano" si vedono meno le imprecisioni. L'effetto quasi "mare sulle unghie" di questa manicure mi è piaciuto molto, vorrei riutilizzare a breve questa tecnica, anche con altri colori.

Inspired by...The hangedit [twinsie]

My attempt - Il mio tentativo

Unfortunately I underestimated the technical difficulty of this manicure and prepared it too late (last Saturday/Sunday, when I had no time left to re-do it).
I love half moon designs, but I didn't realize that it's easy to do them...on a light base: you cover the lunula with something (I usually do it with hole reinforcements) and paint the rest with polish. But here there was a clear base with a black half moon, so I had to find a guide to separate the lunula from the rest: I couldn't find any curved tip guides, as the usual "french tip" were too straight compared to the shape of the original mani, so I ended up using a brush to draw the half moon (and I have zero freehand skills); moreover the black polish flooded my cuticles and was a real PITA to clean up.
Also the tips came out "meh": the guides didn't stick perfectly and the result was not well-defined, so I tried to level them off using the nail polish brush, applying another coat, but then they came out too thick compared to the rest.
Last but not least, I decided to use my Seche as a top coat (to avoid smearing on clear base), but it is was too gloppy and the surface was even more "thick" and uneven. A real disaster!

I'm very unhappy about this mani ç_ç, but it's mainly my fault (I should have prepared it earlier) and...A twinsie is a twinsie, so I'm posting it all the same. Please forgive me!

Purtroppo ho sottovalutato la difficoltà "tecnica" di questa manicure e mi sono trovata a prepararla all'ultimo momento. Credevo sarebbe stata una passeggiata di salute, invece non avevo previsto alcune complicazioni: ovvero fare una half moon è facile se la lunetta è più chiara del resto (cioè la copri con la sagoma/mezzo salvabuchi e colori il resto), se invece devi colorare solo la parte superiore la cosa è un po' più incasinata. Dico solo che ho sclerato per trovare una tip decente (rispetto alla foto "ispirazione" le mie guide da french erano troppo poco curvate) e alla fine mi sono trovata a rifinire il semicerchio con un pennellino. E per me con manualità zero è stato un dramma! Per non parlare del nero finito sotto le cuticole ç_ç

Idem la punta, il risultato con le guide non è stato nettissimo, così ho dato un'altra pennellata per sistemare il livello della linea (ma poi si notava il doppio strato rispetto al resto).
Ciliegina sulla torta, per coprire/livellare tutto ho pensato bene di usare il Seche (non volevo rischiare sbavature), ma siccome ormai è bello denso (al limite del colloso) l'effetto è stato quello di una colata (non molto uniforme) di cemento.

Insomma mi è venuta una mezza schifezza di cui non vado per nulla fiera, ma prima di tutto è colpa mia, perché avrei dovuto prepararla prima, poi una twinsie è twinsie, quindi la posto lo stesso!  E chiedo perdono!

My attempt - Il mio tentativo

The hardest thing for me was picking the shades, I was sure I had tons of similar colors, but actually I couldn't find exact dupes, especially of the third "wisteria" color, so eventually I gave up and used a darker shade of violet.

Now watching the pictures side by side on my post I realize I should have picked three completely different shades, lighter and also more "neon"...-_-

As for the tape, I decided skipping the "diy" phase (me + scissors + tape = uneven stripes) and finally used some tip guides I bought many months (or maybe years) ago: the pattern is still a "zigzag", but has sharper angles.

For these reasons my mani came out quite different from the original one: darker and more pointed, but I'm very happy I made the effort and won my nail-art laziness, thanks Rebe!!!

I was really proud of this flashy manicure (and IRL the small flaws were not that visible, it looked more "neat"), even my husband noticed it and I got compliments from unexpected people (not nails related)!
On the other side, my colleagues avoided any comments...I suppose it was a little bit "too much" for them :-D

Last but not least, here are the polishes I used:
Essence Colour&Go 26 Break Through (one of my first swatches...quite ugly :-P)
Shaka 507 Spring Passion 
Kiko 333 Viola Brillante (I still haven't swatched it, but I'm afraid I already own a couple of dupes).

Una delle cose più impegnative per me è stato scegliere i colori, avrei giurato di averne a decine di simili, invece mi sono trovata in difficoltà ad individuare dei gemelli dei laccati usati nel post originale, soprattutto l'ultimo; alla fine mi sono arresa e ho usato un viola molto più scuro. Riguardando adesso il tutto mi rendo conto che avrei dovuto scegliere proprio tre smalti diversi, più chiari e magari più "neon".

Per quanto riguarda le righe, invece di tagliare lo scotch (vista la mia scarsa manualità avrei fatto strisce sicuramente irregolari) ho optato per delle tip guides che avevo preso anni fa e che stavano languendo in un cassetto, in attesa dell'ispirazione: sempre a zig zag, ma con angoli un po' più aguzzi.

Quindi alla fine il risultato è stato diverso dall'originale -_-: più scuro e più a zig-zag, ma sono contentissima di averci provato ed essere riuscita a vincere la mia nail art-pigrizia, tutto merito di Rebenice!

Tra l'altro guardando le foto da vicino, mentre le editavo, ho notato un sacco di piccole imperfezioni ç_ç, fortunatamente "dal vivo" non erano così evidenti e il risultato sembrava abbastanza preciso.

Questa manicure era decisamente vistosa e ne sono stata molto fiera, nonostante fosse un po' più "vivace" del mio standard, l'ha notata perfino l'Ing. e ho ricevuto complimenti da persone inaspettate, mentre le colleghe non hanno neanche osato commentarla (questo dimostra quanto fosse "carica" :-P rispetto al mio solito).

Brace yourselves, a twinsie is coming!

As you can deduce from the banner, it will be an "inspired by" nail art post: we picked a manicure we really loved and tried to recreate it.

My twinsie mate (she also made this beautiful banner) is the super creative Rebenice from Oh No, Not Another Nail Art Blog!... (you can't miss her Wednesday Pattern posts!). Picking pictures and sharing ideas with her was really funny, I can't wait to start!

La mia compagna di twinsie (e creatrice del banner, nonché apportatrice di un sacco di entusiasmo) è la super creativa Rebenice di Oh No, Not Another Nail Art Blog!...(i suoi post "Wednesday Pattern" sono imperdibili)!

Come potete intuire dal banner, si tratta di una challenge "inspired by"...In succo proveremo a rifare una nail art che abbiamo visto in giro (blog, IG...) e che ci è piaciuta molto. E' stato divertentissimo condividere con lei idee e foto (e ne abbiamo tirate fuori un sacco), non vedo l'ora di iniziare!
