Birthstone Challenge October - Opal: flakies

Just orange flakies - Solo flakies arancio (tre "diversi")

We almost reached the end of the year...and the third to last date with the Birthstone Challenge: this month the protagonist is opal!

I still have to check my challenge mates' posts, but I'm pretty sure that this month we will see a lot of flakies (BTW one of the most coveted Nfu-Oh collections, the one with flakies in semi sheer bases, is just called "Opal").

My idea was to reproduce the most common opal: white. I'm not 100% satisfied with the result...But I tried it twice (once also with blue flakes) and this is the best I could obtain!!

BTW I took the chance to try three flakies of mine (Essence, Golden Rose, Sephora - first picture): over white they are ridiculously identical!

Siamo quasi arrivate alla fine dell'anno...E al terzultimo appuntamento con la Birthstone Challenge, oggi è il turno dell'opale!

Non ho ancora guardato i post delle mie compagne di challenge, ma qualcosa mi dice che si vedranno parecchi "fiocchetti iridescenti" (traduzione approssimativa di "flakies"): non a caso una delle collezioni più belle e famose della Nfu-Oh (quella con i flakies in basi semitrasparenti colorate) si chiama proprio Opal.

Io ero partita con l'idea di riproporre l'abbinamento bianco lattiginoso-flakies dell'opale "classico", non sono soddisfattissima del risultato, ma dopo due prove questo è il meglio che posso mostrarvi!

Tra l'altro ho approfittato dell'occasione per provare tre diversi flakies (Essence, Golden Rose e Sephora - prima foto)...su base bianca si sono rivelati assurdamente identici :D

Yves Rocher Luminelle - Fleur de Lune [swatch]

While I was looking for a polish suitable for June Birthstone Challenge (before finding my alexandrite), for a moment I thought about using this old Yves Rocher "Fleur de Lune" to represent pearls.

The polish is a milky white with fuchsia shimmer, here the result after three thick coats (nail line was still visible, but I gave up).
For the record, I've already swatched it in the past, and discarded the pics because I didn't like them (not that I love the ones that came out this time).
As I've already used half the tiny bottle (3ml, I think it's the smallest bottle I own) and I don't like it on me...I don't think I will try swatching it a third time. So this is a "now or nevermore" post (for the sake of blogging about all my polishes).

I don't know if Yves Rocher still sells this polish, honestly I wouldn't recommend it.

Mentre cercavo lo smalto per la Birthstone Challenge di questo mese (prima di avere l'illuminazione-alessandrite) ho avuto modo di riprovare anche un vecchissimo acquisto Yver Rocher, che avrebbe potuto rappresentare la perla.

Il risultato non mi ha convinto per niente, ma dato che è la seconda volta che provo a swatcharlo (e non mi piace), ho deciso di postarlo lo stesso (per onore di cronaca).

E' un bianco lattiginoso con shimmer fucsia, qui il risultato dopo tre passate corpose (non ho avuto la forza di continuare).

Tra l'altro dato il formato veramente mini della boccetta (3ml, ai tempi presa fortunatamente con lo sconto), sono già arrivata a metà dopo due prove!

Non so se lo vendano ancora...In ogni caso non lo consiglio!

Swatch: N.6 Beauty Experience 03 - 09 - 24 - 25 - 28 - 29 - 39 - 48 - 51 - 52

Here's my "picture heavy" post about the N.6 Beauty Experience polishes I posted about here!

I tried to limit the "overload" swatching the polishes two by two, but in some cases I had to do some extra experiments :-)

I must say that I found these polishes quite easy to apply; I forgot to take a picture of the brush (I will remedy soon), it's the "old school" kind: flat and not too wide, I think that ladies with tiny/narrow nails will appreciate it.

Ecco qui il post con tutte le foto degli smalti N.6 Beauty Experience che vi avevo presentato qui.

Ho cercato di contenere le dimensioni del post, presentandoveli due a due, ma in un paio di casi ho dovuto proprio "deviare" facendo qualche esperimento :-).

In generale devo dire che mi sono trovata molto bene per quanto riguarda la stesura; non ho fotografato il pennello (rimedierò), ma è del tipo "old school", piatto e non molto largo, immagino comodo anche per chi ha le unghie piccole/non molto larghe.

N.6 Beauty Experience 52 - 29

52 magenta shimmer (with blue sparkles) really pigmented. I applied two coats, but it could be easily a one coater (check first coat picture).

29 lilac with silver shimmer, a little bit more frosty than its sibling. Two coats.

I decided to try them also with some shiny and matte top coat (from Essence), I really liked the glossy magenta and the satin lilac.

52 magenta con shimmer blu-magenta, pigmentatissimo (una passata sarebbe stata sufficiente, come vedete dalla foto del primo strato), anche se per lo swatch finale ne ho applicate due.
Colore vibrante e super estivo!

29 lilla con shimmer argento, con un finish leggermente più frosty del magenta. Due passate.

Ho provato ad applicare su entrambi un top coat matte ed uno lucido, mi è piaciuto molto il lilla opacizzato, mentre il magenta secondo me è al suo meglio in versione lucida.

N.6 Beauty Experience 39-25

39 a squishy red jelly (or crelly?), here the result after two coats. Really delicious ^_^

25 a golden almost foil-slightly frosty (I really couldn't label it); I had to apply a third coat on my ring finger to cover a patch, two coats on my pinkie.

39 un rosso jelly (o crelly, come finish a metà tra il jelly e il laccato-creme), che vedete qui dopo due passate, l'ho trovato carinissimo!

25 un dorato tra il foil e il frost, sull'anulare ho dovuto dare una terza passata per coprire una zona non uniforme, due passate sul mignolo.

N.6 Beauty Experience 09-28

 

28 a wonderful dark blue shimmer, perfect after one coat (as you will see here). Applying a shiny top coat really makes it sparkle under sunlight. I fell head over heels with this shade *__*!

09 a light gold metallic/foil; a very nice shade...BTW back in 2011 I bought a N.6 Beauty Experience with the same number (at that time they had names, this was Liquid Jewel) and I still have it in my untrieds; I compared the polishes and they look really similar. Anyway here you will see the new version: two coats that dried in a blink of an eye!

28 questo è stato il mio preferito in assoluto: un blu notte shimmer, perfetto in una sola passata (come lo vedete qui, veramente non valeva la pena darne una seconda). 

Con una mano di top coat lucido lo shimmer si vede ancora meglio *_*

09 un dorato chiaro tra il metallico e il foil...Tra l'altro nei miei untried avevo una boccetta (vecchio tipo, quello stondato) N.6 Beauty Esperience con lo stesso numero (si chiamava Liquid Jewel) e i due colori, comparati su bastoncino, sono quasi identici! Comunque qui vedete la nuova versione, due passate asciugatesi in un batter d'occhio.

I liked a lot this color combo, so I tried also stamping with these polishes, but I think that despite being pigmented and easy to apply, they are not "thick" enough to be used as stamping polishes (the pattern tends to "run").

La combinazione di colori mi piaceva tantissimo, così ho provato a fare una prova di stamping, però credo che questi due smalti, pur essendo pigmentati e agevoli da applicare, non siano abbastanza densi per essere usati in questo modo (si "spandono" un po' in giro, compromettendo la nitidezza del disegno).

N.6 Beauty Experience 48-03

48 a rosy-brown creme, a very office-safe shade. Quite pigmented and glossy (two coats); it reminded me of Chanel Khakis and all "earthy" shades that came out that year.

03 white pearly/frost - perhaps you know that this is the finish/color I dislike the most (not to say "hate"), so I won't express my opinion on the shade (I have nailblogger friends that like it); application was easy, despite brush strokes, a typical feature of this finish.

48 laccato marroncino-rosato molto coprente e lucido; un colore secondo me  molto sobrio-da ufficio (mi ha ricordato il periodo in cui erano usciti gli Chanel Khakis e i simili "naturali").

03 bianco perlato: sapete che questo è uno degli smalti che meno mi piace (per non dire proprio "aborro" :-P), quindi non commento il colore in sé (ci sono delle amiche smaltare a cui piace); la stesura comunque è stata agevole, al di là delle striature tipiche di questa finttura.

N.6 Beauty Experience 24-51

 

24 black creme, could be a one coater on short nails (two on mine). Really easy to apply (no cleanup in my pics)!! 

51 golden flakes in a semi sheer base. I tried it on its own (two coats in the pictures with bottles), then I tried adding two more coats, but I think that it works better as a layering polish (check it on black)!

24 nero laccato, su unghie corte basterebbe una passata densa (due sulle mie lunghe/larghe); facilissimo da applicare, quello che vedete nelle foto è il risultato senza pulizia di rifinitura!

51 un mare di particelle dorate in una base semitrasparente. Swatchato dopo due passate (foto con boccetta). In un secondo momento ho provato ad aggiungere altre due mani, ma secondo me dà il suo meglio su una base colorata, qui l'ho provato sul nero.

E questi erano gli ultimi due, spero vi sia piaciuto il post, anche se lunghissimo!!

Discontinued Day: F.U.N Lacquer Rapunzel & Snow White [swatch]

Discontinued Day! This time no polishes "from the vault", but a couple of pretties that have been released last Fall from F.U.N Lacquer (my haul post here), as part of Princess collection (now sold out).

I already posted about Pocahontas, now it's time to see:

Oggi è il Discontinued Day! E gli smalti di oggi sono davvero un "putroppo discontinued" :-( trattandosi di una edizione limitata (ed esaurita) uscita lo scorso autunno da un marchio indie di cui vi ho già parlato, F.U.N Lacquer.

Si tratta di due smalti della collezione olografica Princess (il terzo che avevo comprato è Pocahontas), via alle foto e al breve commento:

RAPUNZEL

I couldn't resist a cyclamen holo, even if from first swatches it was clear that the effect was not "super-flashy". Not thick, but easy to apply and opaque in two coats. The finish is not super glossy, but you can easily solve that with some top coat (that doesn't affect the holo).

The only weird thing I have to mention is applying it I noticed some "unmelted" pigment, that made the small spots you see on a couple of nails. Really strange, also because the bottles -despite the mini size- had a steel ball inside (the other two had no similar issues).

Questo l'ho preso soprattutto per il colore, un bel ciclamino, anche se dai primi swatch on line si notava che l'effetto olografico non era proprio "sparaflash".
Leggero, ma non difficile da applicare, e coprente in due mani. Non lucidissimo, per una finitura super laccata si può comunque applicare un top coat, che non altera l'effetto olografico.
L'unica cosa strana che ho notato in questo colore sono alcuni "granelli" di pigmento che secondo me non si sono sciolti (sono quei puntini che vedete su alcune unghie). Strano, visto che la boccetta, pur essendo mini, è anche dotata di pallina (gli altri due non hanno avuto problemi da questo punto di vista).

F.U.N Lacquer
SNOW WHITE

Another shade I couldn't miss, really peculiar for a holo! Actually it's a sort of light grey, quite creamy and easy to apply (I'd suggest using a good ridge filler base, anyway); linear holo, even if the effect is quite delicate.

Two coats except on index finger, where I had to cover a bump (my nails are so uneven ç_ç) and applied a third one.

Anche questo preso per il colore, molto particolare per essere un holo; più che bianco è grigio chiaro (o ghiaccio), abbastanza cremoso e coprente (anche se consiglio di usare una base ridge filler per uniformare l'unghia più possibile prima di applicarlo). Effetto olografico linear, ma non molto marcato.

Due mani su tutte le unghie, tranne sull'indice dove ne ho date tre (per livellare uno "scalino" - maledette le mie unghie-ondulina).
