Swatch: Claire's Venomous [Twinsie Friday - duochrome]

This week I made it!! I managed to add my post to the "twinsie duochrome" group, having finally the chance to show you a Claire's from 2010 (here thanks to former blogger Chris). The three-pieces collection was probably :-P "inspired" by MAC Venomous Villains and Orly Cosmic FX: today I'm showing you Venomous (here's a useful Claire's-MAC-Orly wheel comparison, made by Steph's Closet).

As you can see from the bottle, it's a purple with golden and green hues: actually the base polish is a semi sheer forest green, filled with iridescent microglitters. Three thick coats for these swatches: the first time I tried the polish I applied thin coats and I had to apply five of them. Never again!! On nails it shifts from purple to shimmering green/bronze.
I love. Obviously.

I tried also layering it on a "random" base I was swatching at that time (warm chocolate brown), you can find pictures of my "experiment" at the bottom of the post.

Stavolta ce l'ho fatta! Oggi anch'io mi accodo alle gemelle di duochrome, mostrandovi uno dei miei vecchi Claire's d'importazione. Si tratta di Venomous, uno smalto uscito nel 2010, sulla scia dei MAC Venomous Villains e degli Orly Cosmic FX (comparazione su ruota da Steph's Closet, con colori simili proprio di queste collezioni).

Come si vede dalla boccetta si tratta di un viola dai riflessi verde-dorati: in realtà la base è verde bosco non molto coprente, piena di microglitter cangianti.
Tre mani dense per queste foto, al primo tentativo avevo erroneamente steso strati sottili e ce n'erano voluti cinque. Mai più!! Il risultato sulle unghie è un bellissimo colore che va dal viola al verde-bronzo iridescente.

Provato anche in uno dei miei soliti layering improvvisati, su un marrone caldo, foto in fondo al post!

NOTD: Claire's Mood Excited/Bored

I love Summer, even when days are really hot, even when my head spins because of my low blood pressure ^_^ and this swatch (my second Claire's Mood polish, Excited/Bored) reminds me of my favourite season and weather. Pictures has been taken just last August (and they weren't the oldest in my photo backlog 0_0), on a day so hot I had to put my hand in the freezer to cool it down and see color changing (not joking)!

I liked the effect but also this time application was pitiful and streaky, so I had to apply 3 coats on index finger and 4 (four!) on medium and ring. On pinkie I applied a nude creme as base and then 2 coats of E/B were enough.

Because of hot weather I found it difficult to have “luke” hands and I had to use water and even ice to make color change, anyway:

hot - peach (Bored)

cold – orange (Excited)

Considering the application issues I'm not that sad about not owning more polishes from this line (I have another one still to post) but I admit: color changing polishes charm me.

Io amo l'estate, anche quando fa veramente tanto caldo, anche se la pressione mi va sotto i tacchi e se mi alzo troppo velocemente mi gira la testa...Insomma è proprio la mia stagione e questo swatch (il mio secondo Claire's Mood, l'Excited/Bored) è stato fatto proprio durante uno di quei giorni caldissimi di fine agosto (e non era nemmeno il più vecchio dei miei arretrati 0_0), così torrido da dover mettere la mano nel freezer (non scherzo) per raffreddarla e vedere il bi-colore.

I colori sono carini, da pesca ad arancio, ma l'applicazione di questo creme è stata veramente penosa, per uniformare un po' le strisce sono state necessarie tre mani sull'indice, quattro su medio e anulare. Discorso a parte per il mignolo, dove avevo usato come base un creme beige: lì sono bastate due mani (e il risultato è migliore).

Come dicevo la temperatura ha reso difficile fotografare i diversi colori, pur usando l'acqua fredda e il ghiaccio...In ogni caso:

caldo - pesca (Bored)

freddo – arancio (Excited)

Considerando i problemi di stesura non credo mi strapperò i capelli perché non ho altri colori di questa linea (ne ho ancora uno da mostrarvi), però lo ammetto: la magia del cambio colore mi affascina.

Last month I finally managed to swatch my Claire's Poison Apple (I got it thanks to DragonRhia last year, together with Venomous and Evil Queen, shades "probably" inspired by MAC Maleficent polishes).

It's very difficult to describe this polish, as it's made of a pinkish red/rust full of iridescent golden microglitters; as the base is quite sheer I think it should be applied in thick coats, without spreading polish too much. Unfortunately brush is not helpful, as it's quite slim, anyway I managed to apply three very thick coats and got the result you see in my pictures.

On nails it looks pretty nice, a amaranth that shifts to orange, you can check the shift "live" here below (my first nail video ^_^).

Very nice despite its somehow laborious application!
I think it's a pity that Claire's polishes are not sold in Italy; besides US I know Claire's brand can be found in Portugal, too...What about your country?

Finalmente a fine 2011 sono riuscita a fotografare Poison Apple, uno dei tre smalti della Claire's che ho ricevuto la scorsa primavera, probabilmente :-P  ispirati ai MAC Maleficent (apro la solita lagnosa parentesi sul perché qui non si trovino marche interessanti tipo questa, pur disponibile nei negozi di altri  paesi europei, ad esempio il Portogallo).

E' uno smalto particolare, difficilissimo da definire, io provo con un “base amaranto/ruggine piena di microglitter dorati cangianti”; avendo una base leggera secondo me va steso denso (per non dover dare mille passate), senza tirarlo troppo.

Il pennello in questo caso non aiuta, visto che è abbastanza scarno; comunque nelle mie foto vedete il risultato di tre strati spessi (praticamente cazzuolate di smalto).
Sulle unghie si rivela un bel duochrome amarena/arancio intenso, oltre al mare di foto metto anche un mini video :-) tanto per farvi vedere come cambia dal vivo.
Molto carino, anche se la stesura non è proprio da "passata e via".

Mi chiedo perché qui da noi non vengano prodotti un po' di smalti duochrome :-( Piuttosto che vedere crackle e magnetici proposti come "Novità del 2012"...

Claire's Mood: Silly/Awesome [Wednesday Pink]

This is the first Claire's Mood I tried; as here in Italy they are not available, I have to thank again Dragonrhia (keep an eye on her blog, something will happen soon) for sending them to me *sends kiss*. Color "change" effect was nice, in normal conditions nail tip has a different color (but I think it depends on hands temperature, mine are usually corpse-cold), I tried also to dip my hands in water to "force" change:

• cold water -> light pink
• hot water -> deep pink

Unfortunately I have to say this polish has been so disappointing concerning application: really streaky, I had to apply four coats and still surface was not even (all nails but pinkie with clear base so it's not bases'fault). Once dry it has a sort of satin finish (not glossy).

Ecco il primo esperimento con i famosi Moods, gli smalti che cambiano colore! Io ne ho avuti tre grazie a Dragonrhia: questo è il Silly/Awesome ed è stato un po' una delusione, non tanto per il colore quanto per la stesura: veramente indecente, sia con base che senza (mignolo).

Ho dovuto dare 4 passate per avere una certa uniformità (e ancora si vedono le strisciate). In condizioni normali cambia colore solo sulle punte (e non sempre, credo dipenda anche dalla temperatura delle mani, io di solito le ho sempre fredde)

Per vedere come reagisce ho immerso le mani in:

• acqua fredda -> rosa pallido
• acqua calda -> rosa

Come dicevo la stesura è orrenda, forse si dovrebbe provare con una base rosa chiaro sotto per dargli uniformità. Una volta asciutto è leggermente satinato.

Desideri esauditi/Lemmings fulfilled: Claire's polishes

I haven't been very much in the mood of "hauling" lately...I'm still buying polishes :-P  but my blog time is so tight I prefer to post just swatches (I decided to resume my post graduate degree so I have to apply myself to study - June examinations are close)!

In my intentions this is more a "Thank You" post: the sweetest "Frankens Queen" Chris from Lacquer Ware for Tips and Toes took the time to hunt up these polishes for me and if you ever had the opportunity to meet her, even virtually on her blog, you know she is such an amazing person, so

without your help I'd never be able to add these gorgeous Claire's to my "collection":

Ultimamente faccio fatica a ritagliarmi il tempo per il blog (ho deciso di riprendere la specialistica che ho lasciato a metà l'anno scorso, quindi...esami a Giugno da preparare!) e vi risparmio i miei haul (anche se continuo a portare a casa smalti ovviamente ;-)).
