[Wheel - Ruota] Holographics/Olografici #1

It's been a busy weekend for me (and my internet key had a tantrum until this afternoon), anyway I wanted to post something, so I picked another "backlog" draft:  my first holo wheel!

This time I added close-up pictures, hope you like them! Here is the list of the polishes:

Side note on wheels: the first I bought where round (with 18 tips) and when I re-ordered them (thanks to Ebay.com, here in Italy they are incredibly expensive) by mistake the seller sent me these oval ones with 20 tips. I kept them all the same and found out I prefer this type of wheel, as they are more solid.

Tra l'altro questa ruota appartiene al mio secondo ordine (sempre grazie Ebay); per errore me le hanno spedite ovali da 20 unghie invece che tonde da 18 come le precedenti, ma ho deciso di tenerle e alla fine le preferisco, sono molto più robuste (nelle altre il punto di giunzione con le unghie è veramente delicatissimo).

ABC Challenge: F - Astra Magnetic Nail Power 04 Fuel

Today for my ABC challenge I'm sporting an Italian polish from Astra Magnetic PowerCollection (I own Skyland too and I must say that at least concerning these two shades the colors on their website are quite different from real life ones)...So please welcome...F as Fuel!

First impression was good, the polish (a ruby red shimmer) is creamy and easy to apply; after first coat I magnetized it (with my usual kit of magnets: fridge, Essence star and Finger Paints wave) but the result was quite subtle.
So I applied another coat and magnetized again: the result was better, but color contrast remained quite delicate.
Anyway I liked this polish mostly because of its rich shimmer,  I think it could be a nice shade for those who would like to try a magnetic polish but don't feel like daring too much!

Oggi per la lettera F abbiamo uno smalto italiano, il Fuel Astra, della loro linea Magnetic Nail Power (la stessa di Skyland, devo dire che i colori sul sito però non mi tornano molto, almeno per i due che ho provato :-/).
La prima impressione è stata ottima, il colore (uno shimmer rubino) è cremoso e coprente, facile da applicare; la prova magnetizzazione (con i miei soliti magneti: da frigo, a stella Essence e a onda Finger Paints) alla prima mano però ha evidenziato un effetto magnetico abbastanza debole.
Quindi seconda passata e ulteriore tentativo: sul rubino di partenza si creano delle righe più chiare, con un un contrasto comunque non fortissimo.
A me è piaciuto soprattutto per lo shimmer, diciamo che potrebbe essere un colore interessante per chi vuole provare uno smalto magnetico non troppo vistoso, restando comunque su un colore classico.
Prezzo medio, 5€ per 12ml.

Swatch: Astra 705 Holo Water

After a while from the first Astra holo reviews...Here is my last one (I skipped the silver and two purples): it's named “Water” but  its shade reminds me of deep sea instead. Holo effect is more scattered than linear and also this one is easy to apply and gets opaque in two coats, even if nail line is slightly visible on a couple nails
I really liked it, surely my favourite between the two greens and maybe even my favorite among all of them.

BTW I'm going to swatch some A-England polishes this afternoon (if the sun remains so bright), would you prefer to see the Gothic Ladies (as I call them, actually 4/5 of Gothic Beauties collection) in single posts or grouped in one? Please let me know voting the poll on the right sidebar! Thanks!

Dopo un bel po' dai post precedenti (giusto quei due mesi) ecco il secondo verde Astra, il mio preferito tra i due (e forse anche tra i quattro che ho acquistato); loro lo chiamano Water ma più che acqua pura e semplice a me ricorda il verde mare.

Anche per questo dovrei ripetere le stesse cose, cioè  che si stende bene, è perfetto in due mani (anche qui se si intravede un po' la linea dell'unghia) ed ha un effetto olografico abbastanza scattered/sparso.

A me non è successo, però so che a qualcuna ha dato problemi di macchie, magari date due passate di base e cercate di non toccare la pelle con il cotone sulle dita quando lo togliete.

PS: oggi (se il sole resterà così) swatcherò ancora un paio di Gothic Ladies della A-England (io le chiamo così, sono le quattro "donne" della Gothic Beauties), preferireste vederle tutte e quattro in un post o una alla volta come faccio di solito? Fatemelo sapere votando il sondaggio in alto a destra, grazie!

Swatch: Astra Magnetic Nail Power - 02 Skyland

Italian brand Astra recently launched a couple “special” polishes collections: holographics and magnetics.

I picked just two of the latter, trying to avoid dupes. If it's possible I try to test magnetic polishes in stores, without opening them of course :-), just using a sample magnet - if available - or another bottle, if there's a magnetic cap or similar: often stripes form also throught the bottle glass.

This is the first one, Skyland, a light grey/blue. The interesting thing is that once magnetized the polish turns somehow blue (not just “darker” as sometimes happens with magnetics), really nice!

Application is ok, but polish is quite sheer so you'll definitely need two coats here.

About magnet, here it is placed on the removable cap, and has the standard “stripes” pattern (aww I started watching “Fringe” and now everytime I use that term I think about “the pattern”); I found it wasn't working very well anyway and used my fridge magnet instead (plus a wavy from Finger Paints and  Essence Magic Star).

Tra gli smalti lanciati di recente dalla Astra oltre agli olografici ci sono anche i magnetici. Non costano pochissimo (5 Euro, comunque per una boccetta da 12ml) così mi sono “limitata” a provare due colori. Ho cercato di evitare doppioni, provando l'effetto magnetico in negozio, ovviamente senza aprirli!  Di solito cerco di vedere come usciranno le strisce, utilizzando – se c'è – un magnete campione o quello del tappo di un'altra bottiglia; di solito funziona anche attraverso il vetro.

Questo è il primo, Skyland, un grigio azzurro chiaro; la particolarità di questo smalto è che magnetizzandolo esce un colore blu più intenso (quindi non solo il colore di base più scuro) veramente bello.

L'applicazione è buona, però lo smalto è abbastanza trasparente quindi secondo me sono necessarie due mani. Il magnete (a righe parallele) si trova sul tappo, che è rimovibile, però nel mio caso ho trovato che non fosse molto “potente” quindi ho usato il solito da frigo per le righe verticali e orizzontali (più un magnete a "onda" di una boccetta Finger Paints e il magnete a stella Essence).

Carino, no?

Swatch: Astra 704 Holo Green

  

Another Astra polish: holographic and green :-) This is the lighter one, a sort of “spring leaf” shade, nice in two coats (and really quick to dry) but a little bit sheerer than its brothers. Holographic effect is the same as the other Astra holos, a sort of dense scattered (how can you label a holo that's not actually linear but still forms a sort of “halo” pattern on nail?).

And for now enough holos (at least for a while) I have plenty of other things to show you (I'm a dispersive blogger, I've got tons of "almost ready" posts just waiting for the finishing touch :-P)!

Ancora Astra, ancora olografico, stavolta verde: Green Holo (il più chiaro dei due) un color “foglia primaverile”. Anche questo uniforme in due mani (per questa manicure in particolare ho notato un ottimo tempo di asciugatura), anche se un po' più leggero degli altri, con certe angolazioni si intravede la linea dell'unghia.

L'effetto olografico è buono, simile ai precedenti (io direi mediamente scattered o per lo meno non perfettamente linear).

E con questo chiudiamo la serie holo per il momento, ho un quintale di altre cose (post quasi pronti, ho il vizio di cominciare cento cose e poi perdermi per strada) da mostrarvi :-)

Swatch: Astra 701 Holo Black

As I promised I'm here with another Astra holographic: Holo Black (the one my readers were more interested in, according to the comments I read so far).

It's easy to apply (as the blue one) and opaque in two coats (just avoid retouching wet polish or you will drag it away). Holo particles are scattered but in large numbers (there's almost a “halo” on nail, but not enough for me to call it a linear holo) so the final effect on nails is not so dark as you would expect from a black polish. Obviously I like it!

Just to let you know how it looks compared to another "black" holo I took a picture of my wheel, where Holo Black stands shoulder to shoulder with  Zeus from Hits no Olimpo, check it at the bottom of the post!

Come promesso eccomi di nuovo qui con un olografico Astra. Ho scelto il nero, perché dai commenti mi è sembrato quello che vi incuriosiva di più.

Anche questo, come il blu, si applica facilmente (basta non ripassare sullo stesso punto, altrimenti si crea un "buco") ed è coprente in due mani. Le particelle riflettenti sono sparse ma abbondanti e mi sentirei di definirlo più scattered (sparpagliato) che linear, anche se un po' di “alone” si vede; l'effetto finale grazie ai riflessi olografici non è scurissimo, nonostante la base sia nera. Ovviamente mi piace :-)

Purtroppo non ho il nero Layla da mostrarvi in comparazione, ma pare che quest'ultimo sia simile allo Zeus della Hits no Olimpo: in fondo al post una foto fianco a fianco dei due sulla ruota (si nota che a parità di mani l'Astra è più coprente ma l'effetto olografico è meno marcato).

Swatch: Astra 703 Holo Blue

More holos! Thanks to Simona from LightYourNails I found out that Italian brand Astra just launched a holo collection (8 shades - price is 4€ for a 12ml bottle) so I went (almost immediately) polish hunting for them.

When I found the display I decided trying just the more daring colors, so I skipped silver, pink and violet, purple one unfortunately was already sold out and bought black, blue and greens.

Today I'm going to show you the blue one, that looks a little bit teal-ish to me (and I'm happy about that)!

Polish is fluid and quite easy to apply, on my pictures you will see the result of two thick coats (brush quite loaded with polish, applied in few strokes, without retouching/dragging polish); as for holographic effect, the polish belongs to the “scattered” group, and is quite shiny even without top coat. Not a super “in your face” holo, but nice nonetheless!

Note: according to inci on label, these polishes are B4 Free and made in Italy, I'm wondering why they are usually sold just in few cheap shops.

Andiamo avanti con gli olografici! Grazie all'allerta lanciata da Simona di LightYourNails ho scoperto che anche la Astra si era lanciata sul mercato, con otto colori (ad un prezzo onesto, 4€ per 12 ml) e dopo qualche giro negozi li ho trovati!

Davanti all'espositore ho deciso di lasciar stare i “soliti” argento, rosa e viola (uno dei due però era già esaurito) e mi sono buttata sui colori più alternativi: nero, blu e verde (due).

Iniziamo con il blu, secondo me leggermente tendente all'ottanio (e la cosa non mi dispiace): è moderatamente liquido e si stende bene, quello che vedete nelle foto è il risultato dopo due passate dense (pennello carico, meglio stendere senza ripassare sullo stesso punto).

Effetto olografico "scattered" dato che le particelle riflettenti sono sparse, superficie lucida anche senza top coat. Non un olografico "da paura" ma comunque molto carino.

Nota: stando all'inci sulla boccetta, visto che non contiene DBP, Toluene, Formaleide e nemmeno Canfora, lo smalto potrebbe fregiarsi del titolo di “Big 4 Free” ed è anche made in Italy...Ma perché cavolo allora la Astra si trova in vendita solo in negozi "scrausi" tipo cinesi o casalinghi?
