Birthstone Challenge October - Opal: flakies

We almost reached the end of the year...and the third to last date with the Birthstone Challenge: this month the protagonist is opal!

I still have to check my challenge mates' posts, but I'm pretty sure that this month we will see a lot of flakies (BTW one of the most coveted Nfu-Oh collections, the one with flakies in semi sheer bases, is just called "Opal").

My idea was to reproduce the most common opal: white. I'm not 100% satisfied with the result...But I tried it twice (once also with blue flakes) and this is the best I could obtain!!

BTW I took the chance to try three flakies of mine (Essence, Golden Rose, Sephora - first picture): over white they are ridiculously identical!

Siamo quasi arrivate alla fine dell'anno...E al terzultimo appuntamento con la Birthstone Challenge, oggi è il turno dell'opale!

Non ho ancora guardato i post delle mie compagne di challenge, ma qualcosa mi dice che si vedranno parecchi "fiocchetti iridescenti" (traduzione approssimativa di "flakies"): non a caso una delle collezioni più belle e famose della Nfu-Oh (quella con i flakies in basi semitrasparenti colorate) si chiama proprio Opal.

Io ero partita con l'idea di riproporre l'abbinamento bianco lattiginoso-flakies dell'opale "classico", non sono soddisfattissima del risultato, ma dopo due prove questo è il meglio che posso mostrarvi!

Tra l'altro ho approfittato dell'occasione per provare tre diversi flakies (Essence, Golden Rose e Sephora - prima foto)...su base bianca si sono rivelati assurdamente identici :D

Sephora blacks: 88 my BF's matte car - L01 chic and rebel [swatch]

Another quick post about two polishes presently on sale at Sephora (1€ each): these are both black, a creme (L01 chic and rebel) and a matte (88 my BF's matte car).

I actually bought them just as "base" for layerings (glitters, sheer duochromes), but once I applied the first coat I've been surprised by their coloring: the creme  "chic and rebel" was almost perfect. Then I applied also a second coat and you can see how glossy it turned out!

I haven't been that pleased with the matte one...Anyway I must say that mattes are not among my favorite polishes, especially when nail surface doesn't look even and you can see brush strokes. So "my BF's matte car" might not be a "stand alone" polish, but if you need just a black base for glitters or sheer polishes, it could be a good choice.

Un altro veloce post di servizio (si spera) su due smaltini Sephora che si trovano in offerta (a 1€) in questi giorni. Sono due neri, un laccato (L01 chic and rebel) ed un matte (88 My BF's matte car); li ho presi tanto per fare: dello smalto nero fa sempre comodo per layering vari (tipo glitter) o come mutanda™ per duochrome poco coprenti.

Invece dopo la prima passata sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita, soprattutto dal laccato: coprenza quasi perfetta!

Comunque ho applicato anche la seconda passata, come vedete "chic and rebel" è lucidissimo!

Non sono stata altrettanto entusiasta del matte "my BF's matte car" (nome inutilmente lungo, ma almeno fa capire che è un opaco). Questa finitura di solito non mi fa impazzire, soprattutto quando la superficie non è perfettamente omogenea e si vedono i segni delle pennellate (preferisco decisamente i satinati); come base per layering o glitter comunque va benissimo.

Sephora flakes: Purple Jewelry - Twinkle Twinkle [swatch]

I was planning another post for today, but after finding out that Sephora old polishes are sold at 1€ (here in Italy, but I think they have been discontinued in other countries, too) I decided I had to post about these two, before they become impossible to find.

They're two iridescent flakes (for once just name, no number): Purple Jewelry and Twinkle Twinkle.

I bought them more than a year ago (the first time I saw them, at full price :/), made a couple layerings and then left them in the drafts. Then few days ago I saw *Ky*'s post and felt quite ashamed for letting these pretties in a corner for such a long time. So I made a last layering (inspired by her pics) and here we go!

Stavo preparando un altro post per oggi...Ma dopo aver saccheggiato l'espositore degli smalti in offerta da Sephora (a 1€ tutti i vecchi colori rimasti) ho deciso che dovevo assolutamente farvi vedere questi due, così nel caso vi interessassero avete ancora la possibilità di trovarli!

Sono due flakes iridescenti in base trasparente (senza numero): Purple Jewelry e Twinkle Twinkle. 

Io li avevo presi (a prezzo intero, ça va sans dire) più di un anno fa, ho fatto alcuni swatch e poi li ho lasciati lì...in attesa di fare altre prove. Pochi giorni fa, dopo averne visto uno da *Ky*, mi sono sentita veramente pessima per averli lasciati nel dimenticatoio, ho fatto un'ultima prova (ispirata dalle sue foto) e via!

Purple Jewelry

A classic: flakes shifting from pinkish-orange to green and gold. Not sure why they picked just "purple" for its name.

Un "classico": flakes che passano dal rosa-arancio al verde e giallo-oro. Il viola del nome non mi sembra proprio azzeccatissimo.

Twinkle Twinkle

This one is more peculiar: purple-light blue flakes, amazing in the bottle, more delicate on nails (according to the base shade).

Più particolare, con flakes viola-azzurri in bottiglia, stupendi in boccetta, più delicati sulle unghie (su certi colori si perdono un po').

And I saved the best for last! This one was inspired, as I wrote in the introduction, by *Ky*'s pictures, it's the layering on Shaka Neptune, covered with a coat of Essence Soft Touch topper (satin).

I loved how they turned out, especially Purple Jewelry.

Infine, questa l'ho fatta proprio "per colpa di *Ky*" (e qua mi viene in mente il ritornello), il layering su Shaka Neptune "satinato" grazie al Soft Touch Essence. Mi è piaciuto moltissimo, specialmente il Purple Jewelry!

ABC Challenge: K - Sephora 55 Killer Trendsetter

It's Monday, challenge time! Today is K turn and I decided to show you Killer Trendsetter, a mini Sephora polish. Don't ask me why I bought it (a year ago), I know it's not a "me" color. Actually I'm pretty sure it was the pink hue visible in the bottle that made me pick it. You know how powerful is the lighting in Sephora stores :-P and probably for a moment I thought the polish could be a duochrome. 

Actually Killer Trendsetter is a platinum beige with light pink shimmer. Not a duochrome at all.

Anyway application was not difficult (I found out it's easier for me if I keep the typical Sephora cat's tongue brush almost parallel to the nail) and polish is opaque in two coats.

Still, not a duochrome :'-(

I hope my challenge mates found Ks polishes they love more than I do today, check them out at the bottom of the post ;-)

Non chiedetemi perché ho comprato questo smalto (praticamente un anno fa), non saprei rispondervi...Anzi forse sì: credo di aver visto, sotto i faretti a un milione di Watt (sono Watt vero? Spesso dico cavolate tecniche sulle unità di misura, facendo inorridire l'Ing.) del negozio Sephora, un riflesso che ho voluto interpretare come duochrome :-/

In realtà lo smalto è un beige-platino shimmer con un leggerissimo riflesso rosato. Duochome zero.

Vabbè, ormai che è preso me lo tengo (e mi ha fatto comodo per la K), comunque in due passate è coprente (solito pennello a lingua di gatto Sephora, ormai ho imparato che usandolo molto "di piatto" sulle unghie riesco a non far danni)  e tutto sommato non è malaccio.

Ma non è duochrome :'-(

NOTD: Sephora P05 Violet Amethyst

Today I'll show you a pre-blog polish, bought in 2009 from Sephora: Violet Amethyst (P05, now discontinued), it's really pretty and even after three years it didn't got thick (as happened to other Sephora minis of mine).

It's a burgundy packed with purple and bronze shimmer, opaque in two coats (but it requires some extra care during application: don't pull polish or you will get bald spots as on my index - near cuticle).

Shade - Luce indiretta

Oggi torniamo indietro al 2009, con uno smaltino Sephora veramente molto carino e che ha resistito benissimo agli anni, visto che non si è addensato per niente: il Violet Amethyst (P05 – purtroppo fuori produzione).

E' un bordeaux pieno di shimmer viola e bronzo, coprente in due mani anche se richiede una certa attenzione (lo smalto non va “tirato” troppo, altrimenti si creano chiazze più chiare, come quella alla base dell'indice).

Pink [Wednesday] comparison: Kiko 314 vs Sephora L18 Raisin

Today I will show you "side by side" a couple of pink cremes I posted about recently.

Sephora one has been discontinued but as you could see the Kiko could be a good substitute, being just a tad lighter; for both polishes two coats and no top coat.

Shade - Luce indiretta

Oggi finalmente posto la comparazione di due rosa che vi ho mostrato di recente! Il Sephora non è più in vendita ma sicuramente se vi piace il colore potete consolarvi con il Kiko, che è praticamente identico (volendo si può dire che è leggermente più chiaro). Due mani per tutti e due, niente top coat.
