Swatch: OPI Over the Taupe

Here is another polish I bought in 2010...This one was not a random Ebay purchase, I chose it purposely on Transdesign (haul post), probably because at that time it was quite famous.

It's OPI Over the Taupe, a polish released in 2009 (Brights collection) and still part of their "classic"shades.

The polish is quite watery, actually I was afraid it was because of its age, but reading back my old comparison posts (here is a taupe one) I realized that the formula has always been that runny.

I took a picture after the second coat and it was really unpresentable (see picture), but after the third one there were no more discolored patches. The shade became more intense, and besides, the surface was really glossy (no top coat for these swatches), I really liked it!

Ecco qui un altro smalto comprato nel 2010...Questo è stato un acquisto un po' più mirato (da Transdesign, qui il post haul), probabilmente ne avevo sentito parlare da qualche parte ai tempi. Si tratta di OPI Over the Taupe, un classico OPI ormai (infatti è uscito nel 2009 con la collezione Brights, ma è tuttora presente nella loro cartella colori).

Il taupe del nome è un termine vago che si può usare per definire un'ampia gamma di marrone-grigio o grigio caldo, si potrebbe tradurre come "talpa" (non altrettanto bello da pronunciare).

Qualche anno fa andava veramente tantissimo (o almeno, io di smalti simili ne ho comprati un tot).

Lo smalto si è rivelato abbastanza acquoso, mi era venuto il dubbio che fosse per via dell'età, ma rileggendo i vecchi post ho visto che era così già nel 2011, ai tempi delle prime comparazioni (tipo questa).

Ho scattato una foto dopo due passate, ma non era proprio presentabile: su unghie anche non lunghissime ne servono sicuramente tre. 

Va detto che dopo la terza passata il colore si intensifica e diventa davvero bello e super lucido (niente top coat per questi swatch).

Swatch: OPI Charmed by a Snake

I got so rusty at blogging!! I've been trying to work on a post for a while, usually in the evening, but every time (while I was thinking about what to post) I ended up loafing around on internet until past midnight.

Eventually I made it, but I had to force myself to shut down my mail, Instagram, Facebook and everything that might distract me :-P.

I'm restarting with a new swatch, of an old polish. I've been thinking about this little "project" for a while: swatching all the polishes I bought during my first nailblogging year (2010).

It's a mix of polishes I bought from the US (quite randomly) and first drugstore findings; during that year I managed to swatch almost all of them, but there are still a few left, and I really wanted to show them here (and remove the bottles from the untried box).

Today I'm showing you an OPI from India collection (Spring 2008); I bought it from Ebay in a sort of "assembled set", without caring about the shades (I just wanted to try some OPIs).

All in all the shades were quite ok (but the famous Yoga-ta Get This Blue wasn't included), here is the group shot (first posts...I find them so tender ^_^).

I picked a non-exciting one (to me), Charmed by a Snake : it's a light brown/caramel with a lot of pretty golden shimmer.

The polish has a weird formula, liquid/almost "oily" (I noticed that other old OPIs are quite runny), for this swatch I had to apply three coats and still had some issues, as the polish didn't spread evenly (check tip of my middle finger ).

Here below there are some pictures, I think it looks better indoors.

Com'è difficile riprendere a lavorare sul blog! Ho perso decisamente la mano...Per un bel po' di sere consecutive mi sono seduta al pc, ma avendo mille foto da editare e non riuscendo a decidere, alla fine mi son trovata a navigare in giro (puro ca§§eggio) fino a dopo mezzanotte, quando era ora di andare a dormire.

La mattina ovviamente mi alzavo piena di buoni propositi: "stasera preparo un post...".

Alla fine ce l'ho fatta (ma ho dovuto impormi di chiudere, Facebook, Instagram e tutto quello che mi distrae di solito)!

Riparto con uno swatch nuovo, ma di uno smalto vecchio.
Da tempo (per non dire anni) avevo in mente quest'idea: swatchare prioritariamente gli smalti del primo periodo blog (parliamo del 2010), un mix di acquisti on line incauti (o meglio fatti un po' alla cavolo - peccato perché ai tempi dall'America arrivava di tutto -_-) e prime scoperte low cost (tipo Essence). Non ne ho più tantissimi negli untried, perché comunque ai tempi il rapporto acquistati-swatchati era ancora gestibile, ma ci terrei a farli vedere qui sul blog (e toglierli finalmente dalla scatola degli untried).

Tornando allo smalto, quello di oggi è un OPI della collezione India (primavera 2008); avevo acquistato un "set assemblato" di sei boccette su Ebay, senza neanche fare caso ai colori (volevo provare degli OPI e basta).

Tutto sommato nel mucchio non mi è neanche andata troppo male (ma il famoso blu Yoga-ta Get This Blue ovviamente non era della partita), qui la foto di gruppo (che tenerezza i miei primi post ^_^).

Ho deciso di affrontare Charmed by a Snake perché è uno di quelli che mi ispirava meno, devo dire che anche sulle unghie si è confermato come un colore non da me.

E' un marrone chiaro/caramello con un sacco di shimmer dorati (carini loro, ma non bastano). La consistenza dello smalto è strana, come oleoso/liquida (anche altri OPI di quel periodo avevano la stessa caratteristica); alla fine ho dovuto applicare tre passate e comunque sul medio lo smalto si è comunque distribuito in maniera non uniforme e come "ritirato" sulla punta.
Qui sotto ci sono un po' di foto, secondo me rende di più in interni...

Swatch: OPI Peace&Love&OPI

Today I'm showing you another OPI polish from San Francisco collection, strange but true it's a multichrome, again :D

This is Peace&Love&OPI, that arrived here thanks to Enails.eu (BTW they lowered EU shipping fees at 3,99€ per order until the end of this year); it's a classic green-grey-purple, opaque in two coats and with the usual "brush strokes" issue that sometimes afflicts these multichromes.

Oggi vi mostrerò un altro smalto OPI della San Francisco, stranamente si tratta ancora di un multichrome :D.

Questo è l'OPI Peace&Love&OPI, arrivato qui grazie a Enails.eu (dettagli sul negozio in questo post, tra l'altro fino al 31/12 le spese di spedizioni sono ridotte a 3,99€).

E' il classicissimo verde scuro-grigio-viola-porpora, con una bella coprenza (due passate per queste foto) e il solito problema dei segni delle pennellate (l'avevo intuito già guardandolo in boccetta, ha quella "perlescenza" da frost...).

As usual I tried it also with a satin top coat, that covers the strokes but "dulls" a little bit the polish; actually I loved it that way.

Come sempre in questi casi vado di top coat satinato, che cancella i segni, anche se spegne un po' il tutto (ma a me piace così "morbido").

Just out of curiosity...How many of these multichromes do you have in your stash? Checking my wheels so far I found just a polish that looked dangerously similar to this one, but I still have a lot of untrieds (including Essence and Catrice). I'm afraid of comparing them!

Allora, ne avete tanti di simili in casa? Io su ruota ne ho trovato solo uno pericolosamente somigliante, ma avrei ancora parecchi untried da smaltire...inclusi degli Essence e Catrice. E ho paura di compararli :D

Swatch: OPI Muir Muir on the wall + Enails.EU

Today I'll show you an OPI polish I got thanks to e-shop Enails.eu: it's a Lithuanian store (so shipping in Europe is custom-hassle free ;-)) that sells US brands as OPI, Essie, Orly, China Glaze...

The packaging I received was really good and safe: each polish was wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a thick cardboard box, surrounded by "biodegradable peanuts" and more bubble wrap. Actually I don't know about prices of such brands in other countries, but I think that the site is worth checking out (there is also a "special offers" page); shipping by tracked mail at present costs €7,99.

Oggi vi mostrerò  uno smalto OPI arrivato qui grazie al negozio on line lituano Enails.eu.

Breve parentesi sul negozio, che non avevo mai provato: su Enails.eu si trovano smalti (e gel) di marchi americani (come Essie, OPI, Orly, China Glaze...) e visto che la spedizione viene effettuata dall'Europa non si rischiano controlli doganali. 

La spedizione è tracciata (al momento quella via posta costa €7,99) e nel mio caso il pacchetto è arrivato in una settimana (è possibile monitorarne il percorso, da quando entra in Italia, direttamente dal sito delle poste italiane).

L'imballaggio mi è sembrato ottimo: gli smalti sono arrivati avvolti singolarmente in bolle aria, inseriti in una scatola rigida e protetti dai "cornetti di mais" per imballaggio e da un ulteriore foglio di bolle aria.

Da ultimo (ma non meno importante, anzi) i prezzi: variano dal "quasi come da noi" al "meglio che da noi", in ogni caso vale la pena tenere d'occhio eventuali promozioni su smalti o collezioni specifiche.

Let's get back to our Muir Muir on the wall (from OPI San Francisco collection), at first I thought it was "just" a gorgeous deep purple-burgundy shimmer (perfect in two coats, three on middle nail to correct a patch), slightly darker at edges.

Then while I was swatching it I noticed it's also a nice duochrome/multichrome, a little bit hard to catch, but with a visible shift: from purple to a sort of burgundy to golden brown.

I had to take a lot of pictures ;-) I apologize for the poor lighting of some of them, but to catch the shift I had to take them practically against the light!

Ma torniamo al nostro Muir Muir on the wall (della collezione OPI San Francisco), devo confessare che all'inizio mi era sembrato "solo" uno shimmer scuro stupendo, con una tonalità molto interessante di viola-bordeaux (perfetto in due passate, tre sul medio per un ritocco), leggermente più scuro ai bordi.

Dopo aver scattato un po' di foto però mi sono resa conto che questo smalto è anche un duochrome niente male, un po' "timido" da catturare, ma con un cambio comunque ben visibile, visto che passa dal viola al porpora ad un marrone dorato.

Anche in questo caso il mare di fotografie era d'obbligo (mi scuso per l'illuminazione di alcune, ma per catturare il cambio colore ho dovuto orientarmi quasi controluce)!

Discontinued Day - OPI Coleccion De España: Can you tapas this? Conquistadorable color, Pamplona purple, Ate berries in the Canaries

Today is our monthly date with some discontinued products, and I decided to show you some OPI polishes I bought in 2010 on Ebay as "six polishes - half España collection"; two of them have already been featured on my blog (Bullish on OPI and Here today...Aragon tomorrow), these are the remaining four.

To tell you the truth, not all of them have been discontinued: Pamplona Purple seems to be still present on their website, but I really wanted to show them at the same time.

Anyway after four years the polishes were quite "dismantled" (the pigmented part settled on the bottom), so I had to roll&gently shake the bottles a little bit before applying them. Application was not very easy, I found the polishes quite runny, but I have to say that once dry they are still very glossy. Impressive!

Two coats, no top coat:

• Can you tapas this - reddish brown
• Conquistadorable color - berry red

• Ate berries in the Canaries - magenta
• Pamplona purple - purple 

Oggi approfitto dell'occasione del "discontinued day" per mostrarvi alcuni OPI d'annata, comprati nel 2010, come "parziale collezione Espana".

Due ve li ho già mostrati (Here today...Aragon tomorrow e Bullish on OPI), questi sono gli altri; ad essere onesta non sono proprio tutti e quattro fuori produzione, visto che Pamplona Purple è ancora presente nella loro cartella colori, ma mi piaceva l'idea di mostrarveli a coppie.

Premetto che in boccetta si erano scomposti parecchio, con tanto di rumore "oleoso" all'apertura. Con un adeguato rimescolamento però sono tornati in buone condizioni, qui li vedete dopo due passate e senza top coat.

Rispetto ad altri smalti li ho trovati molto liquidi (con un paio mi sono inondata le cuticole); recuperano punti però come lucentezza, visto che una volta asciutti restano veramente lucidi da far paura.

I colori sono abbastanza normali, tenete presente che sono alcuni dei miei primi acquisti e di laccati così davvero non ne avevo ;-)

Swatch: OPI Bullish on OPI [reloaded]

Today's post is inspired by Instagram hashtag TBT (Throwback Thursday), used to share a picture from the past. 

So I've picked an old post of mine (my blog was less than a month old) and decided to re-swatch it. The polish is OPI Bullish on OPI (Colección de España - Fall 2009), an intense red (with a pinch of "brick"), creamy and very pigmented.

Two coats and no top coat in my pictures, it's already super glossy!

Actually I don't know if I would buy a similar shade now, but at that time I was super excited about getting half of this OPI collection through an american Ebayer. And after all it's still a nice shade to wear.

Per il post di oggi mi sono ispirata ad un simpatico hashtag di Instagram, il TBT (Throwback Thursday), con il quale si ripropone una foto del passato.

In questo caso ho deciso di swatchare nuovamente uno dei primi smalti apparsi sul blog, l'OPI Bullish on OPI (parte della Colección de España dell'autunno 2009).

E' un rosso intenso, con una punta di mattone, molto cremoso e coprente, due passate e niente top coat nelle mie foto. Lucidissimo!

Non so se adesso come adesso lo ricomprerei, ai tempi è stato uno dei primi -entusiasmanti- acquisti dagli USA; comunque è uno smalto carino da portare.

As for the TBT, here is the screenshot of my post (more than 4 years ago)...My blog (and blogging mood) might have its ups and downs, but I admit I'm proud to see the improvement in my nails and pics.

Mi consola vedere che questi quattro anni e passa da nailblogger sono serviti a qualcosa (devo tenerlo a mente nei momenti di sconforto bloggaro).
