ABC Challenge: V - Eyeko Vampira Polish [swatch]

Today's V-post is not a surprise, as I showed you Vampira Polish from Eyeko in my A-England Jane Eyre post.

The idea is simple: black base (not very thick), red microglitters. The base is quite sheer so after the first coat the result is quite unsatisfying. Luckily a second abundant coat made nails perfectly opaque.

Once dry the polish is not very glossy/smooth (because of the glitters); I didn't apply top coat for the swatches, but I'd recommend adding it for a prettier mani.

And now check the other Vs here below...BTW you will miss our ABC posts next year, don't you? :-P

La V di oggi era una lettera annunciata: Eyeko Vampira Polish! L'abbiamo vista al volo nella comparazione con l'A-England Jane Eyre e oggi ha un post tutto per sé.

Idea semplice: base nera leggera, microglitter rossi. Data la trasparenza della base la prima passata è stata abbastanza inquietante...Per fortuna con una seconda passata abbondante si sistema tutto.
Io non ho applicato top coat e una volta asciutto lo smalto aveva un aspetto poco levigato (a causa dei glitterini), quindi consiglierei di darne una passata per lisciare e lucidare il tutto!

Swatch: A-England Jane Eyre + comparison/comparazione

Adina from A-English just launched a "Gothic Times" promo on her website and a besides adding a couple more shades to my collection :-) I decided to take it as a spur to post also the complete reviews about my Gothic Beauties Ladies (here my overview post).

Today will be about Jane Eyre, the shade I was more doubtful about when I placed my first order, but that reallly won me IRL. As I wrote in my overview post: black base with fuchsia-bronze-purple shimmer. My best effort to define it is "iridescent crimson".

Two coats for these swatches (the polish is a little bit thick but not difficult to manage), as you could see the polish is very dark and its shimmer is not very evident.

I read Jane Eyre many many years ago, but thanks to Wikipedia I refreshened my memory and I think that this shade is perfectly fit for this strong female character.

E' appena partita la promozione "Gothic Times" sul sito A-England e ne approfitto (oltre che per aggiungere ancora un paio di smalti al mio Helmer) per cercare di postare le review complete delle altre Gothic Beauties Ladies (qui il mio post "panoramica").

Oggi Jane Eyre, lo smalto sul quale ero più in dubbio e che invece mi è piaciuto moltissimo dal vivo.

Anche qui riprenderò la descrizione fatta nel post generale: base nera con shimmer fucsia-bronzo-viola, non mi è venuto in mente niente di meglio di “porpora cangiante” per loro.

Due mani nelle foto (il pennello resta il classico tondo - smalto viscoso ma non difficile da applicare), come vedete è molto scuro e lo shimmer non è decisamente sfacciato. Ho letto Jane Eyre tantissimi anni fa ma grazie a Wikipedia mi sono rinfrescata la memoria e questo colore mi sembra  perfettamente intonato al carattere della protagonista.

COMPARISON - COMPARAZIONE

A reader of mine asked me about similarities between this polish and China Glaze Lubu Heels, but I don't own the latter so I did some research and found out that Lubu itself has a sort of dupe: Eyeko Vampira.

I own Vampira (and probably it will be my V polish) so I tried them side by side, as you can see from the bottle they're quite different. On nails too: Vampira has red small glitters in a what seems a less pigmented black base, so once on nails it turns out more red than black. Jane Eyre's subtler shimmer on the other hand is definitely not "just" red.

Una lettrice tempo fa mi ha chiesto se ci fossero delle somiglianze tra questo smalto ed il China Glaze Lubu Heels, siccome il CG mi manca ho fatto qualche ricerca e trovato che il Lubu ha una quasi copia: l'Eyeko Vampira.

Siccome possiedo almeno il Vampira (e dovrebbe essere il mio smalto V) ho deciso di metterli fianco a fianco: come vedete sono molto diversi.

Vampira ha proprio dei piccoli glitter rossi in una base nera secondo me meno densa, per cui l'unghia appare decisamente più rossa che nera; Jane Eyre d'altra parte ha uno shimmer più nascosto, ma che non è solo rosso.

Due smalti diversi anche come effetto, secondo me (con il Jane Eyre potrei anche andare al lavoro,  con il Vampira direi di no).

After the crazy green I posted on Monday and a day of rest (I'm so tired lately, when I wake up I feel like I can't keep my eyes open =_=), I'm switching back to a classic red, with another post I've been keeping in my Drafts for too long (last January).

I finally managed to add captions to pics, so let's compare Essence Colour&Go 61 Fame Fatal with Eyeko Saucy Polish (now discontinued) to find out if they are dupes!

My answer is: almost.

Eyeko Saucy is a little bit more pigmented (it's more noticeable after second coat) and therefore turns out deeper, but I think that (unless you collect red polishes) it's sufficient to have just one of them in your stash.

Dopo il verde "sclero" e un giorno di pausa (ieri non ero in vena di scrivere, tra l'altro è un periodo in cui sono stanchissima, mi alzo già a pezzi =_=) passiamo ad un classico rosso con una comparazione abbastanza datata, fatta proprio a cavallo della mia rottura dell'unghia di inizio gennaio. Infatti lo swatch con la mano intera è stata fatta “prima”, quella con il sole il giorno dopo, sulle unghie rimaste e opportunamente accorciate :-(

Ma veniamo al sodo: l'Essence Color&Go 61 Fame Fatal è un dupe dell'Eyeko Saucy Polish (ormai fuori produzione)?
Quasi.

La tonalità è praticamente identica, l'Eyeko è leggermente più pigmentato (si nota dopo la prima passata) e quindi risulta più intenso. Probabilmente, a meno che non siate fissata con i rossi, può bastare avere uno solo dei due nel cassetto.

P.S. ho un sacco di cose nuove nel cassetto (cioè in Bozze): holo, cromo, verdi, arancio...Abbiate pazienza, spero di riuscire a darmi una mossa e postarli presto!

As this tomato/ketchup red polish is one of the “soon discontinued” Eyeko products, I finally decided to try it. Very pigmented, after first coat it's already opaque (check picture without bottle, I warn you it's also without cleanup *oops*) but I preferred to apply another one and the result was very intense and shiny. Really sad that Eyeko decided to not to produce polishes anymore: besides colors (this is a "classic", nothing crazy or peculiar), application and pigmentation are really wonderful :-(

Sull'onda del “proviamolo che sta per uscire dal mercato” mi sono decisa a swatchare questo rosso “pomodoro/ketchup”. E' molto pigmentato, già l'unghia è coperta dalla prima mano (foto qui sopra, senza bottiglia e pure senza clean up *ehm*)! Io però preferivo un colore più intenso e ne ho date due: colore saturo e lucidissimo.
Mi dispiace molto che la Eyeko abbia deciso di non continuare a produrre anche smalti, questo colore è un classico e può piacere o meno (smalto da "sioretta" lo ha definito la mia collega - a me piace pensare ad una diva anni '40-'50) ma come stesura e coprenza è veramente stupendo.

Bye Bye Eyeko polishes?

Actually I'm sad, I love their polishes and was wonderning why they weren't adding new colors since last year :-( Anyway today they tweeted "We are making way for new products-we promise you won't be disappointed", I hope so!

Unfortunately some of them are already out of stock, in case you are not sure about grabbing something, these are some of the available ones I swatched:

Addio agli smalti Eyeko?? Tristezza! Mi piacevano molto, sia come colori sia per la stesura (poi c'erano le spese gratis, che non era male), infatti mi stavo chiedendo come mai non ne uscissero di nuovi praticamente dall'anno scorso. Non so come mai abbiano deciso di eliminarli, sembra stiano rinnovando l'assortimento (da un loro tweet "We are making way for new products-we promise you won't be disappointed", speriamo bene). In ogni caso se volete vedere cosa sta per "sparire" (alcuni sono già esauriti come il Tea Rose o il Military), qui ci sono alcune mie review:

Right after this post I decided to do a more extended taupe comparison with polishes I had "sleeping" in my stash. I apologize in advance for dry cuticles, especially on "wear test" pictures: I took them during the week (more than a month ago, nails were quite short), right after I came home from work to catch some sunlight and I didn't have the time to "pamper" skin as I usually do. This is what  I decided to compare:

Subito dopo aver effettuato questo paragone ho deciso di approfondire l'argomento taupe, aggiungendo alla comparazione altri due smalti della mia "collezione" (che detto così sembra una cosa seria :-D). Sono foto che risalgono a più di un mese fa (le mie unghe erano in fase "corto"): mi scuso in anticipo per le condizioni pietose delle pellicine, soprattutto nelle foto di "test durata", ma le avevo dovute scattare appena tornata a casa dal lavoro per avere un po' di luce naturale e quindi senza avere il tempo di "coccolarle" con creme e burri vari. Ecco cosa ho provato:

• index - indice Eyeko Posh Polish - € 5 x 8,5 ml
• middle - medio OPI Over the Taupe - in Italy € 15 x 15ml (US retail approx 6$)
• ring - anulare Essence Colour&Go 34 Walk of Fame - € 1,29 x 5ml
• pinkie - mignolo E.l.f. Smoky Brown - € 1,70 x 10ml

By twos they are quite similar, even if Essence is more watery and greyish than Eyeko and E.l.f.  is darker and "browner" than OPI.

Considering that they were all from different brands, I decided to keep them on (without adding top coat) to do a short wear test. Being aware that on my tips all polishes remain intact  just for few hours (less than 24, maybe because of my typing style, who knows) I wasn't surprised the following day, as all nails had tipwear (Eyeko less than the others, but that nail was shorter); the following days the situation didn't get worse, anyway. I didn't wait for the polish to come off in pieces or peel because on the fourth day I was really sick and tired of my taupe mani :-P

Marginal note: the price of this polishes goes from ""really cheap" to "medium-high" (at least in Italy, where OPI cost 15€) but their performance hasn't been significantly different :-/

Si nota che "a due a due" sono simili, anche se l'Essence è più liquido e leggermente più grigio dell'Eyeko, e l'E.l.f., pur assomigliando tantissimo all'OPI, è di poco più scuro e "marrone".

Visto che gli smalti sono di marche diverse, ho provato a vedere come avrebbero reagito all'usura quotidiana (senza top coat). Sottolineo che a me gli smalti si consumano tutti sulle punte dopo pochissimo (sarà per l'uso della tastiera, chi lo sa) e anche questi dopo un giorno erano già sbiaditi alle estremità (l'Eyeko un po' meno ma l'unghia era anche più corta) però non sono peggiorati particolarmente nei giorni seguenti. Non ho aspettato scheggiature e scrostature dello smalto, dopo quattro giorni ero stufa marcia della mia mano taupe ed ho tolto tutto.

Nota a margine: i prodotti appartengono a fasce di prezzo diverse (da super economico a medio alto), però la "performance" secondo me non evidenzia particolari differenze...Mah!

Reader's request - A richiesta: Eyeko Posh Polish vs OPI Over the taupe

Very quick comparison, made for Simona, who was wondering how similar were Eyeko Posh and OPI Over the Taupe. Not much, IMO. [BTW sorry for the ugly index nail, it broke again and this time I really had to file it short].

Besides polish pigmentation (as you could see in pictures Posh is opaque after first coat whereas OPI is more watery and requires two/three coats, according to your patience/taste) these taupes are different, because Posh leans toward a cooler grey tone, whereas OtT is warmer (light brown, although muted).

I found this comparison really interesting (taupe skittles are funny), so I checked my browns/taupes wheel and helmer, soon I will show you another one, made adding also other two polishes.

Questa comparazione "al volo" è stata fatta per Simona, che si chiedeva se l'Eyeko Posh e l'OPI Over the Taupe fossero molto simili. Intanto scusate le unghie ma quella dell'indice si è ri-rotta e stavolta è decisamente corta :-(

Dunque, gli smalti sono molto diversi tra loro, a parte la pigmentazione (il Posh è coprente già dalla prima passata mentre l'OPI è più "acquoso" e ne servono due o tre, a seconda dei gusti e dalla pazienza, per un bel risultato) uno tende al marron-grigio (Posh) e l'altro invece ha un colore più caldo, decisamente marroncino (anche se "smorzato").

Questo confronto è stato divertente, tanto che ho controllato la mia "ruota dei marroni" e tirato fuori altri due taupe da confrontare, li vedrete presto!

Yesterday evening I broke my left index nail :-( so I filed all of them. Luckily:

1) they are not very short

2) I still have a lot of backlog pictures to show you (my nails will all the time to grow in the meantime!).

It's been quite a long time since I last posted an Eyeko polish (BTW how come they haven't released anything new recently?), when I swatched this one I appreciated once again the smooth application.

Two coats in my pictures (no top coat, polish is really shiny), after first coat this taupe creme was 90% opaque (if you are in a hurry you might settle for one coat only, as you can see in below picture color is not intense but there are no patches/streaky areas).

Ieri sera (ma me l'aspettavo, data la lunghezza e la necessità di fare comunque le faccende) mi si è rotta l'unghia dell'indice sinistro, così le ho limate tutte, Fortunatamente:

1) non sono proprio cortissime

2) ho tante di quelle foto da editare e postare, nel frattempo le mie unghie possono ritornare lunghe :-)

E' un bel po' che non posto niente della Eyeko (tra l'altro è parecchio che non lanciano nuovi smalti, peccato), quando ho swatchato questo ho avuto modo di apprezzare ancora una volta l'applicazione veramente stupenda.

Un bel taupe a prova di ufficio/colloquio/esame, bellissimo e lucido dopo due mani (niente top coat). Tra l'altro dopo la prima mano è già decente, come vedete nella foto il colore non è intenso e  stra-brillante, però non ci sono zone striate quindi se si è di fretta ci si può accontentare.
