Kiko Shades of Black Nail Lacquer [skittle]

Hi! First real/nail related post of 2018 (and also the first one after a long absence)...Anyway I feel like I'm kind of "resuming" something I suspended last September, as one of my latest posts was about a new LE from Kiko, the Holographic Nail Lacquer collection, and there was also another collection I was interested in, the one with the "almost black" polishes, but that time I did't manage to try them.

During January sales I bought the first two bottles (03-04), then at the end of February (thanks to a great "buy 2 get 4" promo on LEs) also the other four joined my stash.

Today I will be showing you a quick skittle, hoping I'll be able post also single swatches soon (the weather here is really awful, please Spring bring us some sunny days!).

Primo post vero/smaltoso del 2018 e dopo un lungo periodo di assenza...Mi piace pensare che oggi si riprenda in qualche modo il discorso interrotto a settembre: uno dei miei ultimi post infatti riguardava gli smalti di una edizione limitata Kiko appena uscita, quella degli olografici Holographic Nail Lacquer; c'era anche un'altra collezione di smalti che mi ispirava molto, quella degli scurissimi, ma al tempo non ero riuscita a provarli.

Ai saldi di gennaio (si vede che era destino) mi sono procurata i primi due (03-04) e poi, grazie a un'interessante promozione "2+2" proprio sulle LE, a fine febbraio sono entrati nella mia collezione anche i restanti quattro.

Oggi ve li mostrerò al volo in una skittle, poi (tempo permettendo, spero che la primavera porti un po' di sole) dedicherò un breve post a ognuno di loro. Partiamo intanto con le info ufficiali dal sito Kiko:

Two coats for this skittle: the brush is quite wide, but application is really easy (these polishes have a perfect formula).

No top coat needed, Shades of Black lacquers are already super glossy; I have to say (being a sucker for almost-black nail polishes) I really fell in love with them.

Qui li vedete con due passate ognuno, il pennello è abbastanza largo, ma l'applicazione è comunque facile: lo smalto ha una consistenza perfetta secondo me.

Niente top coat per queste foto, gli smalti sono super super lucidi già da soli; io che sono appassionata di smalti scuri me ne sono innamorata all'istante.

Il prezzo, già scontato del 50%, è di 2,45€ (boccetta da 10ml), segnalo che fino all'otto aprile on line e nei negozi dovrebbe esserci anche una promozione 2+1 sulle edizioni limitate.

Swatch: OPI Over the Taupe

Here is another polish I bought in 2010...This one was not a random Ebay purchase, I chose it purposely on Transdesign (haul post), probably because at that time it was quite famous.

It's OPI Over the Taupe, a polish released in 2009 (Brights collection) and still part of their "classic"shades.

The polish is quite watery, actually I was afraid it was because of its age, but reading back my old comparison posts (here is a taupe one) I realized that the formula has always been that runny.

I took a picture after the second coat and it was really unpresentable (see picture), but after the third one there were no more discolored patches. The shade became more intense, and besides, the surface was really glossy (no top coat for these swatches), I really liked it!

Ecco qui un altro smalto comprato nel 2010...Questo è stato un acquisto un po' più mirato (da Transdesign, qui il post haul), probabilmente ne avevo sentito parlare da qualche parte ai tempi. Si tratta di OPI Over the Taupe, un classico OPI ormai (infatti è uscito nel 2009 con la collezione Brights, ma è tuttora presente nella loro cartella colori).

Il taupe del nome è un termine vago che si può usare per definire un'ampia gamma di marrone-grigio o grigio caldo, si potrebbe tradurre come "talpa" (non altrettanto bello da pronunciare).

Qualche anno fa andava veramente tantissimo (o almeno, io di smalti simili ne ho comprati un tot).

Lo smalto si è rivelato abbastanza acquoso, mi era venuto il dubbio che fosse per via dell'età, ma rileggendo i vecchi post ho visto che era così già nel 2011, ai tempi delle prime comparazioni (tipo questa).

Ho scattato una foto dopo due passate, ma non era proprio presentabile: su unghie anche non lunghissime ne servono sicuramente tre. 

Va detto che dopo la terza passata il colore si intensifica e diventa davvero bello e super lucido (niente top coat per questi swatch).

Swatch: OPI Charmed by a Snake

I got so rusty at blogging!! I've been trying to work on a post for a while, usually in the evening, but every time (while I was thinking about what to post) I ended up loafing around on internet until past midnight.

Eventually I made it, but I had to force myself to shut down my mail, Instagram, Facebook and everything that might distract me :-P.

I'm restarting with a new swatch, of an old polish. I've been thinking about this little "project" for a while: swatching all the polishes I bought during my first nailblogging year (2010).

It's a mix of polishes I bought from the US (quite randomly) and first drugstore findings; during that year I managed to swatch almost all of them, but there are still a few left, and I really wanted to show them here (and remove the bottles from the untried box).

Today I'm showing you an OPI from India collection (Spring 2008); I bought it from Ebay in a sort of "assembled set", without caring about the shades (I just wanted to try some OPIs).

All in all the shades were quite ok (but the famous Yoga-ta Get This Blue wasn't included), here is the group shot (first posts...I find them so tender ^_^).

I picked a non-exciting one (to me), Charmed by a Snake : it's a light brown/caramel with a lot of pretty golden shimmer.

The polish has a weird formula, liquid/almost "oily" (I noticed that other old OPIs are quite runny), for this swatch I had to apply three coats and still had some issues, as the polish didn't spread evenly (check tip of my middle finger ).

Here below there are some pictures, I think it looks better indoors.

Com'è difficile riprendere a lavorare sul blog! Ho perso decisamente la mano...Per un bel po' di sere consecutive mi sono seduta al pc, ma avendo mille foto da editare e non riuscendo a decidere, alla fine mi son trovata a navigare in giro (puro ca§§eggio) fino a dopo mezzanotte, quando era ora di andare a dormire.

La mattina ovviamente mi alzavo piena di buoni propositi: "stasera preparo un post...".

Alla fine ce l'ho fatta (ma ho dovuto impormi di chiudere, Facebook, Instagram e tutto quello che mi distrae di solito)!

Riparto con uno swatch nuovo, ma di uno smalto vecchio.
Da tempo (per non dire anni) avevo in mente quest'idea: swatchare prioritariamente gli smalti del primo periodo blog (parliamo del 2010), un mix di acquisti on line incauti (o meglio fatti un po' alla cavolo - peccato perché ai tempi dall'America arrivava di tutto -_-) e prime scoperte low cost (tipo Essence). Non ne ho più tantissimi negli untried, perché comunque ai tempi il rapporto acquistati-swatchati era ancora gestibile, ma ci terrei a farli vedere qui sul blog (e toglierli finalmente dalla scatola degli untried).

Tornando allo smalto, quello di oggi è un OPI della collezione India (primavera 2008); avevo acquistato un "set assemblato" di sei boccette su Ebay, senza neanche fare caso ai colori (volevo provare degli OPI e basta).

Tutto sommato nel mucchio non mi è neanche andata troppo male (ma il famoso blu Yoga-ta Get This Blue ovviamente non era della partita), qui la foto di gruppo (che tenerezza i miei primi post ^_^).

Ho deciso di affrontare Charmed by a Snake perché è uno di quelli che mi ispirava meno, devo dire che anche sulle unghie si è confermato come un colore non da me.

E' un marrone chiaro/caramello con un sacco di shimmer dorati (carini loro, ma non bastano). La consistenza dello smalto è strana, come oleoso/liquida (anche altri OPI di quel periodo avevano la stessa caratteristica); alla fine ho dovuto applicare tre passate e comunque sul medio lo smalto si è comunque distribuito in maniera non uniforme e come "ritirato" sulla punta.
Qui sotto ci sono un po' di foto, secondo me rende di più in interni...

Swatch: Chanel 697 Terrana

Here's the Chanel polish from Méditerranée collection (skittle post here) that I could swatch thanks to my friend Irene :-*

She picked the "weird" :-P one of the bunch: Terrana, a brown shimmer with multi colored sparkles.

The polish is easy to apply and perfect in two coats; regardless of Chanel's opinion I don't think it's a very Summery shade. OK, it's elegant and nice, but more appropriate for Fall (to me).

I tried it also with top coat , to make sparkles "pop out" a little bit more (pictures with ring on my middle finger and detail one), and I definitely prefer it that way.

Ecco qui lo smalto Chanel estivo che ho potuto provare con calma, grazie alla mia amica Irene, che gentile come sempre :-*, me l'ha prestato "uso blog".

Vi avevo già mostrato un assaggio-skittle della collezione, anticipandovi che il Terrana era lo smalto un po' "fuori dal coro": un marrone shimmer con luccichii colorati (non visibilissimi).

Nulla da dire per quanto riguarda l'applicazione, lo smalto è facile da controllare e coprente; due passate nelle mie foto. 

Checché ne dica Chanel, io comunque non lo vedo come un colore molto estivo. OK è bello ed elegante, ma secondo me più portabile in autunno.

L'ho provato anche con una passata di top coat (foto con l'anello sul medio e quella del dettaglio), per "tirare fuori" un po' il luccichio; la differenza non era evidentissima, ma secondo me è decisamente meglio aggiungerlo.

Chanel Summer-Estate 2015: Collection Méditerranée [skittle mani]

We're just in the middle of Summer, but already some Fall/Winter previews peep out to remind us that "Autumn is coming". I so not want to think about it, and I decided to post this quick skittle of Chanel Summer 2015 nail polishes before it's too late. Thanks to my friend Irene I'll be able to swatch one of them soon!

The Méditerranée Collection included four nail polishes: three are bright cremes (two of them are very Summer-y) and the fourth is a more complex shade:

Siamo nel bel mezzo dell'estate, ma già si iniziano a scoprire le anteprime delle collezioni autunnali (e non solo nel settore smalti/make up in generale), la mia reazione di solito è di rifiuto mentale, non sono pronta a ripensare alla brutta stagione!!

Quindi ho deciso di affrettarmi a mostrarvi una skittle veloce degli smalti estivi Chanel (di uno potrò farvi anche uno swatch come si deve, grazie alla mia amica Chanel-ista Irene).

I colori proposti erano quattro, tre vivaci (di cui due molto molto estivi) e uno più complicato da descrivere:

I fell in love with Lavanda at first sight/swatch I saw on line, and I really liked also Coquelicot (its name means Poppy in English, and I love these flowers)...Let's see what happened when I tried them on (two coats each, no top coat).

A prima vista (swatch on line) mi ero innamorata del viola (ma va?) e anche il rosso mi attirava abbastanza (forse per via del nome, adoro i papaveri). Vediamo cosa è successo quando li ho provati (due passate ognuno, senza top coat).

Unfortunately Lavanda disappointed me a little bit, I found it quite tricky to apply (check my flooded cuticles). On the contrary Mediterranée application was easy peasy, and Coquelicot was really a stunning poppy-red (but I think I have enough red cremes in my stash).

Terrana was well...complex: I still think that brown is not a Summer shade (even it this polish would look great on a suntanned skin), but I liked the colored sparkles in it.

Diciamo che mi è calato un po' l'entusiasmo per quanto riguarda il Lavanda, che si è rivelato un po' sfuggente al momento della stesura (le mie cuticole lo dimostrano).

Al contrario l'ottanio Mediterranée (spiegatemi gli accenti diversi dal nome della collezione) è stato piacevolissimo da applicare; Coquelicot è decisamente un bel color papavero (ma esito ad aggiungere altri rossi alla mia collezione) e il Terrana (a quanto pare edizione limitata) pur essendo marrone ha degli interessanti shimmerini colorati (io continuo a non vederlo molto estivo, come colore, anche se indubbiamente su una carnagione abbronzata potrebbe avere il suo perché).

Cherry on top...Lavanda reminded me of something, so compared it (on swatchicle) with two purple cremes I own: China Glaze Grape Pop and its dupe Catrice Purposely Purple (from an old LE).

I won't say these three are identical (Chanel Lavanda is a little bit less opaque and more bright), but they surely look quite similar, so I definitely decided to save some "high-end polish" money and wait for the next Chanel collection.

Ciliegina sulla torta, quel viola mi ricordava qualcosa (di bello, eh), che avevo già visto...

Così ho provato a compararlo con due viola che ho dalla notte dei tempi (ovvero dal 2010-2011): China Glaze Grape Pop e il suo gemello Catrice Purposely Purple.

Ora non dico che siano uguali (lo Chanel è un pizzico più leggero e più vivace), ma sicuramente si assomigliano tantissimo, tanto da farmi passare la voglia di spendere la cifra-Chanel per comprare il Lavanda. Aspetterò la prossima collezione!

Kiko 497-515 vs Chanel Taboo-Vertigo [comparison - comparazione]

If you read last post and were curious...Here is Vertigo's twin: Kiko 515 Metallic Plain Chocolate. The first time I saw it in the store, among all new shades, I immediately thought it was suspiciously similar to the Chanel dark vampy.

Here is a quick comparison (one and two coats):

• pointer: Chanel Vertigo x 2
• middle: Kiko 515 x 2
• ring: Chanel Vertigo x 1
• pinkie: Kiko 515 x 1

Se avete letto il post di martedì e aspettavate il seguito...Ecco qui il dupe del Vertigo: Kiko 515 Cioccolato Fondente Metallico.

Appena visto in negozio, tra tutti i colori nuovi l'anno scorso, ho subito collegato questo marrone scurissimo con shimmer rosso al suo gemello Chanel.

Nelle mie foto vedete la comparazione dei due smalti, dopo una e due passate:

• indice Chanel Vertigo x2
• medio Kiko 515 x2
• anulare Chanel Vertigo x1
• mignolo Kiko 515 x1

Under sunlight they look quite similar, perhaps Kiko is a pinch darker and shimmer is a little bit more visible.
I have to say that the Kiko tester I tried was very thick, I don't know if this was a feature of this polish or just the effect of an abused tester...On the other side, Chanel applied perfectly.

Anyway, even if they are not 100% dupes, I think that if you want to try a Vertigo-like shade without spending too much, this Kiko is right up your alley.

Alla luce solare diretta si assomigliano parecchio, il Kiko è leggermente più scuro e forse lo shimmer si vede di più.

Va comunque tenuto presente che il Kiko steso in negozio era molto denso (ma non se sia una caratteristica dello smalto o colpa del tester magari chiuso male), mentre lo Chanel è stato facilissimo da applicare.

In interni il Kiko -due passate- mi è sembrato un pizzico più scuro, ora a guardare le foto non vedo differenze. Comunque...Non saranno identici al 100%, ma se volevate provare un colore tipo Vertigo senza rimetterci un rene il 515 mi sembra un'ottima soluzione. 

Tra l'altro non ero sicura di postare la comparazione, da me in negozio questo colore è sparito durante una delle "riorganizzazioni" degli espositori; invece controllando sul sito risulta ancora presente, quindi dovrebbe essere reperibile!

I know I'm sooo late, by now everyone that follows EU nailblogs knows that Kiko 497 (Pearly Indian Violet)  is practically a dead-on dupe of Chanel Taboo...

But last year I made a comparison of them too, so here it is (one and two coats): 

• pointer Kiko 497 x 2
• middle Chanel Taboo x 2
• ring Kiko 497 x1
• pinkie Chanel Taboo x 1

Visto che ci siamo, vi mostro anche queste foto, vergognosamente datate, di una comparazione Kiko 497 Viola Indiano Perlato - Chanel Taboo (ormai è risaputo che questo Kiko è la copia sputata -o quasi- dello Chanel).

Comunque eccoli qua, anche loro comparati su una e due passate:

• indice Kiko 497 x2 
• medio Chanel Taboo x2 
• anulare Kiko 497 x1 
• mignolo Chanel Taboo x1

After the first coat Chanel wins in terms of pigmentation, after the second one the Kiko becomes darker, but maybe a little more "red" in terms of shimmer .

BTW I still have to show you Chanel Taboo...I took some pictures when I got it, but I'm not 100% satisfied with them and I still have to decide whether to re-swatch it or not (blogger dilemma :-P).

Alla prima passata lo Chanel vince come coprenza, dopo la seconda si ha la sensazione che il Kiko diventi sì più scuro, ma forse un pizzico più tendente al rosso (come shimmer) . Sta di fatto che (per uno che non vada a cercare il pelo nell'uovo) sono praticamente uguali.

Tra l'altro devo ancora mostrarvi il Taboo da solo :-( le foto fatte ai tempi non mi soddisfano al 100% e non ho ancora deciso se rifarle o meno (problemi da nailblogger :-P).
