Swatch: Colour Alike n. 501 Do jasnej choinki! + comparazione

Another foreign polish on my blog! This time we're in Poland with a Colour Alike/Colorowo nail polish.

This one is n. 501 (Polish name "Do jasnej choinki!" that means "For a bright Christmas tree!"), from their Dark Holo collection; I won it and its brothers 500-502-503 at a FB giveaway in 2015 (lucky me)!

This polish has a deep forest green shade, is very pigmented (one coater!!) and easy to apply; it also remains very glossy.

I liked it very much and I'll try to post another one (that I swatched before my hiatus) a.s.a.p...Anyway I'm pretty sure I'll add more Colour Alike polishes to my stash, some shades are really pretty and although prices have been raised a little bit since 2015 (these polishes costed €4 each, now 6€ - at international Colour Alike store) they are still affordable.

 

Anche oggi restiamo all'estero, stavolta con uno smalto della Colour Alike/Colorowo (Polonia). Questo è il n. 501 (nome polacco Do jasnej choinki!*), fa parte della loro collezione Dark Holo e con un grandissimo colpo di fortuna l'ho vinto ad un loro givaway su Facebook agli inizi del 2015, assieme ai fratelli 500, 502 e 503.

Lo smalto è coprentissimo (una passata sola nelle foto!!) e molto piacevole da stendere; il colore è un verde bosco e come vedete resta bello lucido.

Cercherò di postare quanto prima anche l'altro dark holo che avevo già swatchato...Sono davvero ottimi smalti, credo che prima o poi cederò alla tentazione di procurarmene degli altri; per la cronaca i prezzi sono un po' aumentati rispetto a qualche anno fa (questi dark holo nel 2015 costavano 4€, ora 6€ - dal sito internazionale Colour Alike), ma sono comunque abbordabili.

* in italiano Google Translator mi dava un risultato strano, passando per l'inglese potrebbe essere "per un brillante albero di Natale"

I read somewhere that this Colour Alike was very similar to A-England Saint George, so I decided to put my swatchicles (two coats) side by side, adding also another dark green holo (Born Pretty Holo #12).

In the shade they seem quite close, but in direct sunlight their differences really pop out:

Avevo letto che questo Colour Alike era molto simile al Saint George di A-England, così ho deciso di fare una veloce comparazione su swatchicle (due passate ciascuno), buttando nel mezzo un altro olografico verde scuro che ho, il Born Pretty Holo #12.

All'ombra i tre verdi sembrerebbero simili, le differenze però emergono al sole:

• Saint George has a brighter green color (leaning to blue), its holographic effect is rather scattered and mainly adds a certain depth to the shade;
• Born Pretty Holo #12 has a linear effect with the typical holo "flame";
• Colour Alike n.501 has a slightly different holo effect, still linear, but with a wider and more golden/yellow "flame", that makes it look more greyish.

No dupes, yay!

• Saint George ha colore verde più intenso (tendente al blu) e brillante, l'effetto olografico è meno rilevante rispetto agli altri due, più che altro conferisce luminosità e profondità allo smalto;
• Born Pretty Holo #12 ha un effetto olografico linear con la "fiammata" classica;
• Colour Alike n. 501 è un olografico un po' meno linear, con una fiammata sparsa molto "gialla", che lo fa sembrare più tendente al verde scuro-grigio.

Quindi assolutamente nessun doppione, evviva!

Swatch: A-England Captive Goddess + comparazione

Today I'm showing you an indie polish: Captive Goddess from A-England.

It belongs to Rossetti's Goddess collection: I would have bought all four of them just for the "Preraffaeliti" theme <3, but eventually I got just this one (Proserpine was out of stock when I placed my order ç_ç).

Captive Goddess has a very indefinite color: it's a sort of light blue-greenish-grey, with a subtle purple hue (visible just at a certain angle) and a soft holo effect.

The A-England formula is great as usual (coverage and evenness), two coats for these swatches.

Oggi è il turno di un indie: Captive Goddess di A-England, dalla collezione Rossetti's Goddess. Premetto che li avrei presi tutti e quattro solo per il tema (Preraffaeliti <3), alla fine la scelta è caduta su questo (avrei voluto anche Proserpine, ma era out of stock quando ho fatto l'ordine).

Captive Goddess è uno smalto con un colore difficilissimo da descrivere: è una specie di azzurro-verde-grigio con un effetto holo diffuso e un leggero riflesso viola (visibile a certe angolazioni "estreme" o sulle punte).

Formula eccezionale da A-England, lo smalto è coprente (e liscio) in due passate.

The following day I decided to compare it with another indie polish: Emily de Molly On Edge. They have the same indefinite blue-ish/greyish color, but OE is darker and the holo effect is different and more visible.

Il giorno dopo averlo swatchato l'ho comparato con un altro indie, che avete già visto qui sul blog: On Edge di Emily de Molly...I colori sono dello stesso tipo "indefinibile", ma OE è più scuro e l'effetto holo è decisamente più "flash".

Swatch: A England Beauty never fails [#polish_abc] + comparazione

I fell in love with this polish the first time I saw its swatches on line (more than three years ago, time flies!). Beauty never fails is a very "me" color, a dark base with antique gold flakes that show green sparkles in sunlight.

Perfect in two coats, even if the first seemed a little bit sheer.

It's really beautiful, isn't it?

Lo smalto che vi mostro oggi è uno dei miei "colpi di fulmine": appena ho visto i primi swatch me ne sono innamorata e grazie a una delle ultime spedizioni dirette da A England (più di tre anni fa) questo gioiellino è arrivato a casa mia. 

Beauty never fails è un colore molto "da me": una base scurissima con flakes oro antico che al sole sembrano verdi. Due passate nelle foto, applicazione facile anche se la prima mano è risultata abbastanza leggera.

BTW I wrote it was a very "me" color...So "me" that I found out I already had a couple similar colors in my stash...And that I've already compared them: Essence Gold Old Buffy and Pupa 706. Argh!!

Here below you can find a quick -further- comparison of these three polishes: I have to say that Beauty never fails is slightly more "green" compared to the others, but if I ever arrange a blog sale, I would certainly let go at least one of them.

A proposito, dicevo che è un colore molto "da me". Così "da me" che dopo averlo provato ho realizzato di averne altri due pericolosamente simili. E non due a caso, ma due che avevo già verificato essere dupe tra loro: Essence e Pupa 706. Qui un'imprecazione ci sta tutta.

E anche una comparazione veloce: a voler essere pignoli un po' di differenza c'è...A parte il fatto che l'Essence è molto più liquido, a guardarlo bene Beauty Never Fails ha riflessi più verdi degli altri due, che sembrano più spenti e "oro antico".

Diciamo che quando/se deciderò di fare un blog sale di sicuro uno dei tre ci finirà dentro.

Indie haul: Norway Nails

Do you remember the Emily de Molly that I posted a couple days ago? It's an Australian polish, that arrived here in Italy thanks to the European retailer Norway Nails. At the end of June I placed my first order to them and I wanted to share my impressions.

If you take a look at their e-store you will be impressed by the brands they are selling *___*: A England, Cupcake Polishes, Foxy Paws, Lacquer Lust, Lilypad Lacquer, Liquid Sky Lacquer, Picture Polish, Spell Polish, many more and obviously Emily de Molly.

Prices depend on brand and type of polish; you can pick the displayed currency on website, but the invoice is stated in NOK (right approx 1€=9NOK). Paypal accepted (very important to me).

Also important: from time to time they organize promos/sales...I bought the polish during the Summer Sale at the end of June: using a code (on their FB page) you had a 50% discount.

50%...Irresistible! Shipping cost was also pretty fair: four bottles to Italy = 45NOK = approx 5€.

Vi ricordate quell'Emily de Molly di qualche giorno fa? È australiano, arrivato in Italia grazie al distributore europeo Norway Nails; quello di luglio è stato il mio primo acquisto da loro, e volevo raccontarvi le mie impressioni. 

Se andate a curiosare sul sito vedrete quanti marchi indie hanno (occhi a cuore). Faccio qualche nome: A England, Cupcake Polishes, Foxy Paws, Lacquer Lust, Lilypad Lacquer, Liquid Sky Lacquer, Picture Polish, Spell Polish, tanti altri e ovviamente Emily de Molly.

I prezzi variano a seconda di marchio e tipo di smalto e sul sito si possono visualizzare anche in Euro. La fattura comunque arriva in Corone Norvegesi (il cambio adesso è circa 9 NOK per 1 Euro) e si può pagare anche con Paypal.

Segnalo che ogni tanto ci sono delle promozioni, anche "succose": io ho ordinato gli smalti durante la loro Summer Sale: due giorni durante i quali (con un codice pubblicato su Facebook) si aveva lo sconto del 50% su tutti gli smalti. Irresistibile!!

The polishes arrived here (North East Italy) in two weeks; as you can see the package was very nice, wrapped in a pretty black/grey paper. Nice and safe, anyway: inside the pretty paper each polish was wrapped up in air bubble film and inserted in a plastic bag.

I'm very happy about my purchase and I'd recommend Norway Nails if you want some indie polishes but cannot buy them directly from the seller.

About that...We are quite unlucky here in Italy: custom duties and postal inefficiency made us so unpopular that often on e-stores you can see a note "Shipping worldwide. Italy (and few other countries) excluded".
That makes me very sad (and sometimes angry)...And glad there are these European retailers.

Gli smalti sono arrivati in un paio di settimane (ordinati il 28 giugno e arrivati qui il 12 luglio - contando che con la svendita avranno avuto un sacco di ordini), come vedete erano confezionati in un carinissimo pacchetto e super protetti all'interno da sacchettino singolo e bolle aria. Imballaggio bello & sicuro!

Il trasporto (per quattro smalti) è costato 45NOK, che corrispondono a circa 5 Euro (quindi più che accettabile).

In conclusione Norway Nails è sicuramente un sito che consiglierei a chi vuole provare degli smalti particolari o in generale qualche marchio "artigianale" straniero, che non si può comprare direttamente dal produttore o che avrebbe costi di spedizione/doganali proibitivi.

Le smaltamiche appassionate di indie lo conoscono bene (e magari mi diranno se mi sono dimenticata qualcosa).

2011 Week: A England Perceval [swatch]

In the desperate attempt :-P to reduce the absurd amount of polishes in my untrieds, I decided to be more organized/focused and create random "themed weeks" for the blog.

Let's start with a "polishes I bought in 2011" week: I tried to pick four nice pieces, actually I don't have so many from that year, my "buying more than I could try" issue began just around the middle of that year.

I decided to start with a "centerpiece", the famous A England Perceval!

Perceval is one of my first A England polishes: a rich red shimmer, nearly opaque in one coat (I used two for my pictures, but you could see also the result after the first layer) and wonderful to apply.

If you are a fan of red shimmers (and also if you aren't) Perceveal is really a must have!

Nel disperato tentativo :-P di smaltire le vagonate di untried accumulate negli ultimi anni, ho deciso di creare delle settimane "tematiche" per il blog.

Iniziamo con "gli smalti comprati nel 2011"...Va detto che fino a circa metà anno ero riuscita a tenere abbastanza il passo, poi è iniziata la discesa (rapida) agli inferi :D, comunque gli untried di quell'anno non sono tantissimi. Ho scelto quattro smalti molto diversi tra loro, spero siano di vostro gradimento!

Partiamo con un pezzo forte della A England: Perceval.

Perceval è uno dei miei primi A England, un rosso intenso shimmer molto ricco e coprente; nelle foto vedete due mani, ma è già bello dopo la prima passata (foto qui sotto) e si applica magnificamente.

Un "must have" se vi piacciono i rossi shimmer (e se non vi piacciono, questo potrebbe farvi cambiare idea).
